Our regular sound guy Barry is suffering back problems and couldn't be at the gig last night. We used my p.a. for the 3rd time this year last night. I was amazed at how god that thing sounds. My wife mixed the band and ran that p.a. for years. When we took our first break there were a couple of younger musicians admiring my system. One had a pretty good understanding of live sound reinforcement. I overheard him explaining the system to his friend. Its funny I wanted to tell him this is just the backup system the REAL one makes this look like a toy! Still it was fun using my system and having a wife that has a great ear for mixing a band is a real blessing. The crowd was great and it was a nice large club. Barry our regular guy is the one that takes the pictures and video as a result I don't have anything to post! Hopefully he will get well soon!

Both of our PAs are antiques with broken channels.
One of the cabinets went out too.
It sounded pretty good while it lasted, though.

We also had a good gig last night, and as is becoming more and more the case . . . our system ran the whole show.

I'm going to have to invest in one of those sound management " X " thingys. And a bigger board eventually.
I got to step up the game as soon as we can afford too.
In our situation we must be the "audio experts" . . . cause it sure ain't the people hiring us.
We are lucky if anyone can tell us where the breakers are so we can check the amps available.
Hold on to your butts boys . . . I'm switching ON !

George, if you get a sound management thingy get the DBX Driverack PA. That is if you are using power amps. if you are using powered speakers or board they also have units for that application as well. It COMPLETELY simplifies your setup. All I do is hook everything up look at the room choose one of the rooms that I have already spectrum anylized that matches closest push load and PRESTO my system is eq'd to the room no more guessing and NO MORE FEEDBACK PERIOD! With you guys playing churches, worship halls, and outdoor gigs this thing makes it a no brainer. I know you are loyal to Carvin but from what I have read their XDrive can't even come close to what this thing can do for the same price!

We use the driverack also, and its great.

It has a program that suppress's feedback, but honestly after setting it for a room our singer can stand in front of a main and not get any feedback.

When I got back in my band we had the same ole Rane CX over and a 31 band eq, which both werent acting right, so when I went and priced a couple of more units it wasnt much more to buy the driverack.

The only drw back is when we would go to eq a room, you tell everyone this will hurt for a couple of minutes, sounds like a jet taking off.

Yeah that pink noise generator runs thru all the frequencies and auto eq's your system then you name and save that room. I have spectrum anylized so many rooms I don't have to do that anymore John. I always can find one that fits the room fairly well. Back when I first got this system 2005 I would scout the bar or venue ahead of time make arrangements with the manager show up early before many people were there and shoot the room then name and save it. I always thought it sounds more like waves crashing on the beach.

well, at our VAL & MAL gig on saturday my piece-o-shit CARVIN powered mixer finally gave up the ghost. it was down to the last working amp in it...and now that's toast. so help me, i'll NEVER buy another CARVIN product. we had to go w Val's old powered PEAVEY mixer and it did just fine.

ALWAYS good having backup!

funny, it was retro equip all around as we used my old BOSE 802's. they still sound great. now THAT's how ya build equip that's gonna be around for the long haul.

Our PA went on the Fritz Fri night but our PA guy had a back up mixer and we made it thru Ok.
Bandmix members had the Gremlins last weekend it sounds like !

Deadguitars, we actually had a good gig, my pa is pretty nice that's why those whippersnappers were admiring it! Having said that my pa cost about $15,000 My friend whom is our soundguy (member of the band) pa cost about $40,000.

No worries Brother! I have been thru 3 hurricanes and believe me I understand how an EVENT like that can disrupt any normalcy one has! I hope you and your family are doing well! Also I know how a major storm like that can bring a community together that is one of the positives. I try to ALWAYS look for a positive in bad situations even one as horrible as Sandy! Hang in there Brother it does get back to normal. Is Crip okay have you heard from him?

Crip had a picture on FB today all dressed up in suit and tie.
Damn near did not recognize him.

All my Carvin gear is still going strong.

But I have to admit, after reading up on management systems I feel pretty sure I'll go with the DBX system.

Problem is we ( band and family ) are burning through cash faster than we can make it.
My wife's new job kicks butt so I'm semi retired from nursing at the moment to focus on the home front issues.

Hope the new video will prove good advertisement.
We're staying steadily booked but the expenses incurred are eating our
sack lunch.

George, thanks for the update on Crip. I have been wondering if he is okay I have said more than a few prayers for him! I am also GLAD to hear things are going well for you guys! Ya'll are AWESOME!

That dbx unit looks pretty sweet.
Last night at band practice something was messed up with the inputs section of the main PA board (bass player owns it and says its fairly new) - attempting to plug in a mic into another channel (only using 6 at this point), and there was a shitload of noise and no quick solution.
Luckily, we had finished audititioning 1 guy - who is now our new lead singer!

The 2nd guy who showed up last night .... that's another story.
10 minutes late. I told him to use the house front door when he got there, but asked him to call me when he arrived as we were auditioning someone else earlier, he didn't call, all of a sudden we hearing banging on the garage door.
He shows up with his wife/girlfriend, who plunks herself down in the living room without an invitation!
He's wearing a floor-length black leather coat, black leather fedora (which he leaves on) and bright red pants.
We had given him a list of 8 songs, asked him him if he wanted to do any in particular, he said any of them, so we pick the first one, Can't Buy Me Love, tell him he starts it out. He asks if anyone is going to sing harmony with him on it - we say 'it's a solo piece, there is no harmony'. OK, next song, then next one, he can't sing worth a damn, doesnt' know the lyrics, can't harmonize, can't even find the key. "Thanks, we'll let you know ... goodbye.'
So we had the good and the bad in one evening.

Now we're taking a month off and regrouping in January. In the meantime I've got two prospects for my acoustic act and I can hopefully find some more time to work on my solo songs.

When I am in the situation you were with the 2cd guy, they always get a VERY SHORT AUDITION 2 songs max. Auditioning SUCKS from both angles. I have had the opposite happen. I showed up for one audition and the drummer was working on his car. The band was an hour late and I was early. When the band showed up (after the drummer called them) they said we didn't think you were coming Huh we had set a time and date. Oh and they sucked! I showed for another audition. The guy said you are on at 8 so I arrived at 7:30 waited outside and went up at 7:50 the guy said oh I have one more guy I want to audition and he's next! I said okay. I waited finally I got to audition at 9:30 mind you I had been waiting for 2 hrs. and wasn't very happy. When I was done one of the guys said your the one we want. I said think about it some more and call me. They called the next day and wanted me to join. I said No thanks good luck to you guys. It was a good band too. I guess I am too much a black or white guy. I don't like to except gray area but if I am going to play with PEOPLE I had better learn!
