Hello all,
As a newer member, it is only right for me to continue to introduce myself to the community.

http://youtu.be/ioOlIJWwdhA

Above, is a youtube video I posted at roughly 2 am while jamming to some Armin van Buuren. I practiced playing to the song twice for two minutes each before recording this video, so I had enough time to find the basic chords. In all reality I basically did just what you see, hit play and start playing randomly.

It took about a minute and a half, but I think I snapped at a couple parts with some pretty cool piano tones. It's not perfect as I hit a few accidental notes, however if I recorded this in MIDI and went back I bet this would be sick. The ending gets a little botched, but I tried near the last minute to pick it up.

This is a great representation of how I plan on writing my pieces, instrumental with classical and trance themes. You can pick a genre that everybody loves, or you can pick one that you genuinely love. Though, I would add lyrics to a song like this.

After attempting the collaberation, it would appear there are not very many trance supporters in the audience. Are there any on this site, do I have to fight to get you to appreciate it, or is it a lost cause? :P

I feel like if I practice this over and over, I could play a sick cover like I did with my bassnector remix video (You can find it in the same playlist). I just need to play it half the day and drill into my head to only play the notes in harmony to it

I cant evaluate your piece....

Trance does nothing for me... I don't see the point in it. It's not very creative to rate as true 'musical composition'. (not by my own standards anyway) Anybody can do this... It requires no skill or talent. It reflects nothing but repetitive, nervous energy. No variation to keep it alive. It goes nowhere, has no direction, and offers no value of movement or inspiration.

But I can definitely see it as being an ambiance, or mood setter in a dark underground club, for people who cant find a groove for simpler things.

WHatever floats yer boat...Good luck to ya

Ok, good. It appears that BandMix will fall into the "I have to fight for appreciation". I am currently taking requests for covers and remix's, it can be any song, yours mine or anybodys. I'l either play something to it or mix it up with some new tracks.

JCP61, the newest songs I have uploaded to youtube are all original songwriting. Anything before 2012 is half mine, the beats are simply premade loops. Anything really old is all loops, my first attempt at trying to use AcidPro :p

PaperDog, to each his own. As long as you see a place for my genre, that's all I need :) However, I feel I would be able to help you see more faith in this if there were lyrics present. They help add another vector of skill, direction, and inspiration drawn from the tones, solidifying the emotions meant to be displayed.

However, I don't believe lyrics are needed in all songs, provided you are not trying to press a certain, exact emotion. If you are, then lyrics really do help guide the listener.

i wouldn't worry too much about "fighting for appreciation". instead i'd suggest you keep doing what you enjoy and whatever gives you an avenue for creativity. if folks dig it great...if not, well as long as no women, children, or small animals are being hurt....

instrumental music is fine by me but i'm not a big fan of the whole ambience, trance, etc thing. way too repetitious for me... esp those drum beats w the four on the floor kick drum and "pea soup" hi hats. those beats just sound like some big, maddening, infernal printing machine to me! aaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!! 8)

JC,
The video I posted here is just the most recent thing i've posted, there are a few songs i've composed in this playlist --http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1PzPsEc5y8&playnext=1&list=PLlENaORNUwfY95_2PB65w77Zc-ODGxFTE&feature=results_main

Well damn, if the printing machine has some tone to it why not? Can you imagine, an "office space" theme song? I think it would go well.

My take on Trance (and dub-step) is it is that emotionless... In fact, that's the premiere feature of it. The intent is to induce escape from distraction, (in the name of club leisure or domestic meditation) which includes wiping the canvas of meaningful emotion (meaningful makes it distracting) . If you want to know how non-sentience feels...there it is, in Trance. If you want to experience an absolute color, there it is...in trance

But there is absolutely no way you can compare trance to story telling, which is what song and lyrics are essentially about. Apples and Oranges . If you want to tell a story and swath the back-drops with trance, okay...but your themes become extremely limited. How does trance support the expression of exhuberation for example, or agonized, relentless depression? (It wouldn't, by its very nature, lest it become trapped into a meaningful theme). Trance can be the back drop of a pneumatic...pastorals. I would use them for many scenarios to invoke a sense of place (spacial).

Now, Here's something really cool you can do with it...You can use it to express minimalist progression (temporal) in which the listener starts off on one tier of experience and eventually realizes, (graduates) on another tier... by the end of the piece.

That is your first assignment grasshopper ;)

I worked in an office for a couple of years, and nothing about that appeals to me
