New Band Update

My new classic rock band rehearsed last night and learned two new songs, Billy Joel's "Big Shot" and Rod Stewart's "Maggie May". This band does such a cool variety of music! We're up to 30 songs, probably start gigging in January. For Jimi's birthday we closed with "Red House" and Trower's "Too Rolling Stoned". Too much fun for an old geezer.

Jimmy, glad you are happy with the new band. That's what it's all about- being happy playing.

MikeN: That is such a cool version! Thanks for posting that. We probably sound more like that than Billy Joel lol.

Kramerguy: Thanks, yeah I'm having a ball. It's so fun when everyone is on the same page and into what you're doing. It's a different kind of fun than The Farleys, a lot more of a challenge too - you have to play a lot of different styles and learn a lot of parts but when it's good it's great.

Jimmy I want to hear Born To Run, if you ever get that recorded please post it, its one of my favorite songs.

Its funny I watched those country music awards a few weeks ago and one of the bands played a portion of it, I enjoyed it.

Hell yeah John! We play a damned fine version of it for four guys, maybe we will get into the studio after the holidays and lay it down.

Jimmy Ive brought up playing Born To Run in the Aint Yo Mama band, but noone else seems to care, I think I could do a killer 3 piece heavy rock version!

It's a bear to sing! Before we got Johnny (the singer) I was singing it, kicked my butt. Do it John!

jimmy, you are a well rounded guitar player.. and all this time I thought you werte just a guitarist that could only play The Ramones music.. I would have to say you are in my top 5 here at BM

Ha, thanks Dane. I really don't consider myself to be all that great, I know lots of guys that are better. Well-rounded is what happens to the rock that's been in the river a long, long time.

I just thought the lead solo on Baked Beans was well balanced despite a comment made it needed more.. that's what's wrong with music today, people forget the absence of notes is just as important as cramming too many notes into a stanza..

Bruce? DOH..

Only ever liked "Tunnel of Love". YES, he's a great musician but....not really my cup of tea.

That's the idea behind "phrasing" as in the notes you play are just as important as the ones you do not play.
