just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. having been there many times...i always find it kind of amusing.

so, i played a cpl of pick-up gigs this weekend at The Backdoor Lounge (sounds like a gay bar, right?) a big old truck stop on I-70 just west of Columbia MO. anyway, about a month ago i got a call from jack. he's an exp pro, a nice guy, and strong frontman and rhythm gtrst. he has the house band gig there and his regular band couldn't make it. so he asked me to play bass...and can i get him a drummer and lead gtrst who can help him out singing some tunes. no problem, i've got a big rolodex of players and get the drummer and gtrst lined up.

tho i know jack, i'd never played w him before. so everyone shows up and we're up stage and everyone is introducing themselves in a room full of customers. in that situation i always think...man, if you're the club owner that's probably the LAST thing you wanna see......a bunch of musicians introducing themselves to one another an hour before they hit!

same bit this weekend...i get out there friday night and jack has a different drummer and gtrst who i'd never met.....i walk in and walk up to the stage and it's the same bit.

i'm helping him out next weekend and i wouldn't be surprised if i get to make some new acquaintances.

I was supposed to play a gig with a guy once who "stood me up at the alter."
Luckily, the bar got shut down by the cops before I had to hit the stage alone. The previous band had a knife fight onstage.

Shouldn't be a big deal if everybody is capable and familiar with the tunes. I've done it before a bunch of times. No sweat with the right people. Funny bar name. We just had a bar close by me named "Humpies." Their slogan "Where Every Day is Hump Day!"

Oooh the hair is standing up on the back of my neck..

Just be careful, people are scaaammmmeeeerrrrssss.

I played bass with one guy for a night and at the end of the night helped load up etc.

I stopped to talk to this chick for 30 seconds and the guy boogies.

I was like, are you going to pay me ?
When I caught up to him, he told me he forgot.

I was like, "since when did YOU ever forget anything to do with money"?

beware.

glad you were able to catch up w that guy and get things straight.

i've known this guy for close to 20 yrs so i'm not worried about him playing funny w da money.

and actually...for as long as i've been doing this, as many groups as i've been in, and as many pickup gigs as i've done i'm happy to say i've never had anyone...musician, or club owner try to screw me on the money.

I play music, I don't deal well with people.

For me, the 2 do not coincide well. lol

PS: That's part of why I didn't want to be involved via the Thanksgiving fiasco. I heard that they were semi-awful as well. (tee-hee)

If I have to prepare for something and I am to be paid, I expect no surprises and ease of completing said transaction.

Would you like a surprise from me on your show night?
Then don't do it to me when I go to get paid. LOL

Quid pro Quo..
