So I got all settled in and working on the iguana stuff last night. About 25 minutes in, the little guy wakes up crying and comes out running around looking for me.
I had headphones on (low level) so I know that wasn't what woke him up...

Every time it seems like a get a window of time to do something musical now, the world says 'NOOOOOOOOOOO'.

I doubt the Pools bit would have ever even gotten done, but it only took about 10 minutes to figure something out, and lay it down.

 ...

Trying again tonight sometime.

I know the feeling, in my case I just cant get myself to get my gear out and record, dont know why?????

I guess the muse hasnt hit right, to where I think I have something worth spending the time to do it.

If you use drop-D again, make sure you tune before recording, gtZ!

Sometimes the muse is there, but not the time.
Sometimes the time is there, but there is no inspiration.

But when both are there, it's magic!

When neither are there you're thoroughly depressed.

The best time to practice, write or record is when you don't feel like it.

then go out have a beer, listen to a live band (where more than likely you will think 'these guys are shite!') and get inspired again.

best music I ever wrote was at the most miserable point in my life, although I DID feel like playing-- it became an escape from reality for the most part.

I listen back and while it was the best, it was also fairly depressing music.. beautiful, but depressing.

Zip, times where I didn't want to pick it up, or was frustrated with mental blocks - I would take a couple weeks off, then when I did pick it up, I would delve into something totally unrelated to anything I would listen to or play.. like a smooth jazz song, or even some guitar lines from peruvian flute band music .. anything to break the monotony.

BTW Jazz is awesome, I only wish I had the knack for it. Not in the cards for me. I still go to it once in a while when things get dull, but I can tell that I will never have the feel for it that a lot of these pros do- I envy them in a way :)

I remember playing some bass licks for a guy long time ago.
He was really impressed and thought I studied jazz theory.
I didn't have the heart to tell him it was just old blues scales with some wrong notes thrown in.
 :)
