i was never much of a Hostess kid growing up. instead for my family, and most of my friends it was Drakes. Devil Dogs, Yankee Doodles, and of course Ring Dings.

it's funny growing up jewish and in nyc....there was a definite dichotomy when it came to certain food brands. almost across the board for my family and jewish friend's families...it was Drakes vs Hostess, Skippy vs Peter Pan, U-Bet or Hershey's syrup vs Bosco ...and at my gentile friends houses just the opposite.

Are Drakes kosher?
Never heard of 'em.
But, I don't do much shopping in the predominantly Jewish areas around here either.
I was a bit amazed to find out they sell ORIGINAL Coke with SUGAR in it there.

WHen I was a little kid, My family stayed for a brief stint in Brooklyn. Three memories, very profound to me...
1) was the Easter Sunday when an Ice cream shop opened at noon...My mom and I had been walking in a small Park, and she introduced me to my first Coffee flavored Ice cream cone.
2) The First Episode Of Batman and Robin came out on the B&W Tv in the basement rec-room in our building.
3) Drakes !

Kato could've kicked Robin's arse any day, but the producers held him back ... :?
