This entire argument is ridiculous. It's completely irrelevant who pays more or less for any of this stuff. What is important is the perception that people have of people who are receiving aid. While there may be a percentage of people who are ripping off the system, and who knows what that percentage really is, what's disturbing to me is the amount of prejudging. My son, for example, looks perfectly normal to the uninitiated. He's receiving thousands of dollars of aid per month. He looks like somebody who could rip your head off, but he's actually quite helpless. The federal government has made great strides in recent years to reduce the amount of abuse in the welfare system, so much so that there's a small fraction (way under 10%) now abusing the system. The vast majority who receive food stamps need them to SURVIVE, literally. I'm self-employed. My gross sales in 2011 was HALF what it was in 2010. I haven't applied for food stamps, but I'm going to look into it, and if I qualify I'll be grateful to have them. I wouldn't be embarassed and I'm happy that federal aid is available to those that need it, so I simply say STOP prejudging, don't begrudge anybody. You don't know their circumstances in life. And for crying out loud this red state/blue state talk is inane, meaningless, nonsense. It doesn't prove a damn thing. We're all in this together and need to work out a pragmatic way to KEEP the safety net for people who really need it.

I understand the frustration of this endless back-and-forth of the same old arguments between liberals and "conservatives". It is beyond tiresome.

Barrack Obama said in his acceptance speech that we are not a collection of red & blue states, that we are the UNITED States of America. But, "conservatives" never seem to understand this. They're on an endless quest to screw everybody else, at any cost. Reasoned arguments don't matter to them. Facts don't matter to them. They just keep going in circles, and drag us along. If Dizz wants to bang heads with them, let him. MAYBE someone will get something out of it. The election is over. We had some success. But, how much will really change? Anything?

Is it really asking too much to have freedom AND security for all?
Is it really asking too much to have fewer billionaires if we can have less poverty?
Is it really necessary to have endless wars and government power-grabs?
IMO the only things wrong with America are misplaced priorities and mass-misiniformation.

We could readily afford many more social aid programs (including small business incentives) with the wealth that this country creates... but not when it gets bilked from the coffers first!

The military/security industrial complex and and banking /finance and insurance corporatives don't leave any leftover for us.

(in 1990 the entire years' welfare budget was the equivilant of... one hour of pentagon spending for that same year)

(The military left EVERYTHING in Iraq when they pulled out... so "we" could pay to replace every single item)

So you can left right red blue all you want... because that's exactly what they want you to do = divide/distract/conquer!

As a conservative (I'm a conservative only to people, who are frightened of working hard) .....

If you need to collect stamps... That doesn't offend me at all... You are seemingly , a responsible man, who works for a living, provides for his family and doesn't dead-beat on his kids... If you need food stamps brother, By all means, grab as many as you can.. Get all the federal aid you can . If we were close pals, I'd be inclined to drop some cash in your hand , Cause I do that for friends) ...

WHat I cant (and wont ) do, is support lazy, worthless dead-beat losers . America is full of em. They are a drain on the goodwill of others. looking at a set of statistics without context give you the opportunity to make up any story you want and use them as a basis.

the red states as you call them are predominately resource states, alaska being a prime example.
if you go back and calculate in things like farm subsidies and oil royalties you see the cost and expense system of lower populated areas.
the truth is the large population centers consume vast quantities of food and fuel.
in many cases way more than their ability to pay for them
alaska generates revenue way in excess of the per capita.
if iowa received an just share of the money generated by the corn they grow
they would all be millionaires and you Dorito munchers would be on the brink of starvation.
silly liberal consumer guilt is at the heart of this rag, nothing more.
