It's been hard for me to connect with like-minded musicians in my area.
Bluegrass and Country
It seems to be lots of Bluegrass and Country here.
I don't mind listening to that stuff on ocassion, but I'm not into playing it.

Oldies from the 60's n 70's
I like a lot of that stuff, and it's around this area, but I've heard all the songs so many times . . .

Rock
There's some good rock going on in this area, too, but it's always so loud that it makes my ears ring for 3-5 days. (I talk to folks, and they say, yeah, I know what you mean, I know that I've lost a lot of my hearing.)
As a composer, I value my hearing tremendously, so I avoid places that leave my ears ringing, which I know will eventually damage my hearing.
So - that makes it that much harder for me to connect with anyone playing rock . . .

Folk
That's ok by me, as long as the song isn't too long. I do some folk.

That's cool with me. None here, though.

Everything Else
I like most styles of music.
. . . not too much into monotonal singing, however . . .

I have a setting on my amp which if I exceed it then it's earplugs time. I use cheap ones when I remember to do that but I want to find some better ones that do more to filter out the volume and not the sound.

Talbot, I use some kind of REAL ear plugs each and every time.

Else it's so soft that almost no one would ever hear it.

Good idea, w/ the amp . . .
I've worn earplugs at events, but I feel like a dork.
But even with the ear plugs in, I can hear everything just fine, no loss of anything.
The higher frequencies are more attenuated, yes.
But after a few minutes it seems that all the high frequencies are just fine, like normal, and instead the bass is turned way up, and it sounds really good . . .

Would you rather be able to hear or look like a dork.

Even worse, when I go to a private show and I know it will be loud, I use external headphones. It looks like I am about to mow lawn, but yes i heard you and yes i can hear every nuance of the tune played.

Not that dorky anymore, lemme tell ya..

Some foam earplugs go a long way.

foam are -20 some db.

The external headphones are -30 ish db.

I've had problems where I had a hard time hearing some bass frequencies but it was worth it not to hear that awful ringing in my ears..

I'll take the huge ugly external ear phones for 1000, Alex..
