I need some good video editing software that's cheap, like $50. Anybody have any suggestions? I have a DVD of our show from last Friday and I want to rip it and set up tracks, fades, titles, etc.

I found Roxio Creator (I have an older version) is pretty good for the effects, etc, but not so good for overlays. I use Seriph MovieMaker for that, but it doesn't have the transition FX. The good stuff costs a lot more than $50.

WIndows Movie Maker. Its free (Comes with Windows) and reasonably flexible. Decent choice of resolutions as well.

If yo filmed in HD , consider converting to WMV for that

Thanks Dog, I tried Windows Movie Maker but my version must be too old, it doesn't recognize the DVD format. I'm due for a new PC, I was trying to wait but now that Windows 8 is out I think I'll buy one and see if WMM works.

I just bought a Sony program that was very reasonable. Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum. I haven't loaded it as of this time since I am setting up the computer that I plan to use. It also has a version of Sound forge in it to clean up noisy audio. I bought it because it handles the Canon AVCHD format.

I found a program called VideoPad that lets you try out the program for free. Pretty easy to use, I've ripped a few of the tunes to mpg.

JiimyD! Have you ever considered getting a Mac? iMovie comes standard with the software bundle as well as Garageband. Mac is standard in many recording and visual studios.

Yeah Jerry we use a Mac at the studio where I record but I need a Windows machine since I sometimes work from home and need it to be compatible with the programs we use at work.

This may be a dumb answer, but did you try the standard Windows Movie Maker>?

(I don't have any experience using it.)
