General Music Chat

Was asked to open a set at a party for a friend who just retired from his day Job. He is a bass player. In honor of his musical contribution, they bolted a Wooden guitar cut-out with his name on it, in the Wall outside of the Bar. I opened with a 3 song acoustic set.

Toinight I met a who's who list of local entertainers /musicians... Way Fkn amazing , some of these players

Later, I got up with his band and played a Blues original called "Little Lie (You Don't Get Me Twice) . It was very well received in the house!

Then, I plugged my EPSWC t-shirts (I brought 7 , thinking nobody was actually gonna buy them...) and a Biker club member bought them all from me and told me to bring more at an upcoming engagement in Nov. WOW!

I'm really starting to engage in the circles that count...They are welcoming me in. This is just too awesome!

Grant, you wouldn't believe how much you can make off of t shirt and c.d. sales at gigs if you have a good concept and marketing approach! Kudo's to you bro. YOU DESERVE IT!

killer feedback acoustic on that little snippet. man....it's always like some little cosmic gift when the feedback is right in there all complimentary w the harmony/chords.

that's one of the things i love about this old '67 semi hollow Guild Starfire II Bass i have....at the "right volume" every now and then a note will bloom into beautiful melodic feedback (a la Jack Casidy).

fine, fine job on "Little Lie", grant. band did a good job backing you. what's the amp (or what looks like an old funky amp) behind your head? is that what the harp player was using?

..and where was the drummer hiding....in the bathroom?

The drummer (Jerry) was right behind John (With the white strat) . I had just met him...Seemed like a really cool guy. I dunno about the amp I was so absorbed in the moment I failed to catch the name of it. The guy had a killer pedal set though... and he let me use his acoustic. He (Shay) was the son of the bass Player (Mike) and he also had a les Paul. In Hindsite I should have asked him If I could use it for the song. The Harp Player (Conrad) I just met as well. I did see him a recent blues festival and he can churn out some soul. On little Lie, i think he was holding back, to get a feel for it. I have heard him when he cuts loose and he's damn good. The thing is, nobody heard that song until we played it. That's why I am so enthralled...These guys are plain freakin awesome in their ability to step right up to it and adapt. I bow before them all They are great musicians.

You just getting started though. El Paso is way cool Texas-style and you're going to see that as a plus from now on.

Acoustic feedback is actually pretty easy to get, harder to control. It's amazing to feel your guitar vibrating - and wondering if its going to shake apart on you!
Some fun blues there, although your vocal could have been turned up. Looks like a Mackie Thump 12 (part of the PA) over your left shoulder.

Thats AWESOME Grant. Why don't you give those guys a copy of your songs work them up and start doing gigs as the Blue Poet's? Heck you have the p.a. and resources its just a matter of doing it! Oh and you ALWAYS know a band is playing in Texas when in the background on the video there are cardboard likeness of "That lil' ole band from Texas"
