As usual, libs not need reply. This only for those who have the eyes and ears to see what is going on in this country.

'The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is celebrating Children’s Health Month this October by providing information and health tips on its website, including the importance of energy efficiency in schools.

On the website page is a link to a 26-page EPA report entitled, “Sensible Steps to Healthier School Environment.” In the report’s chapter on Energy Efficiency, the EPA presents a box with items to help establish “Energy Efficiency Opportunities for Schools.”

One of the items in the box reads, “Educate students and staff about how their behaviors affect energy use. Some schools have created student energy patrols to monitor and inform others when energy is wasted.”'

This is great!!!! I think they should buy them official little brown uniforms so they can have pride in their mission. If this really works out maybe they could start monitoring energy levels at home. Shucks maybe they can even turn in their parents for the crime of energy waste. (Using a light bulb that is not filled with mercury) This alone could save the world. (Well except for that lib desire to bring us all under totalitarian rule.)

You know, if it works great in the schools and homes, perhaps they could carry little thermometers with them when they go shopping so they could report any business that is wasting energy to the energy police. You know, like keeping the temp at a physically responsible government mandated temperature. Will probably be 59 in the winter and 87 in the summer :)

there's two ways to look at that.

One is to say well isn't that something, getting the students THINKING about energy waste, educating them on how to conserve, and find ways to actively involve them in the learning environment to apply the skills they have learned. Maybe they will even take home what they learned and educate their parents and family.. save them some $$.

The other way is pretty much what you said.

I wonder what part of children being in "energy patrols" do people not understand?

"Gather 'round children. Today I want to tell you about a new, fun and exciting program we are going to start here at Government Elementary. We are going to learn more about your vituperative little carbon footprints and how we can all save planet earth by watching each other and making sure we are all doing our part to support former Vice-President Al Gore and his inconvenient truth.

"So, let's see. Let's play a game today. I want each of you to think of yourselves as "pollution police" and you come and tell me if you see anyone throwing anything on the ground during recess, or wasting government food during lunch time, okay? And tomorrow we'll have some other ideas to play this game, and maybe even give you ideas to play at home. How does that sound?"

It sounds like a liberal government NEA agenda-driven manipulation scheme to me.

There was a time in America when Sunday Blue Laws held sway and Americans were told to watch their neighbors and make sure "the Lord's Day" was not desecrated. People ended up in stocks, losing their homes, their livelihoods, and even ended up on chain gangs in Tennessee in the mid-1800s during the worst of it. And some how Liberals think people are totally different today and will not act the same way, especially if children are singled out to start the "patrolling" early.

Thankfully (to at least some degree) Obama will be back to community organizing in a few weeks and he can dream about his citizen army from the folding chair of some little office in Chicago. Unless, of course, he goes back to being a "Constitutional scholar" at Marxist Elitist U.

but you could take almost anything they teach in school, and exaggerate it to the N'th degree and come out with equally distopian outcomes.

Hey kids, today's lesson in health class is about fat and calories in foods. We will use these (pulls out packaged foods) as examples. Did you know a twinkie is bad for you?! Let's look at this fresh lettuce, it's good for you.

Now that we've learned hands-on, you can take this information home and police your parents at the grocery store. Next time you are at the convenience store, you can police random strangers when they are buying hot-dogs to go.

And if you want to really "make a difference" you can lobby your local politicians to ban certain types of foods in your township, yay!!

See how that works?

You guys are really making this out to be something it isn't.

If they teach kids about money, are they encouraging them to take over everyone's finances?

If they teach grammar, are they releasing a bunch of mini-Hitlers online to be the grammar police?!

C'mon.. there's far more pressing issues to deal with in life, this is nothing but a wedge issue piece designed to feed the anti-liberal troll. Stop falling for stupid propaganda like this.

Are you kidding me?????? A government agent shows up at a school in NC and tells a child her home lunch is not as healthy as it should be, and Mrs. Obama runs around telling people what they should and should not eat, and what's his face up in NYC tells citizens they can't purchase large sodas, and all these maniacal madmen with their ideas of how life should be lived are everywhere creeping in and you think we make much ado about nothing?

Continue to bury your head in the sand and watch the day arrive when exactly what you have described is law.

If the government can tell you what kind of light bulbs to use, it can tell you anything.

Not only that but MrsHell suggested that parents of school children follow the example of her "lunch program dictates" at home! She wants to be in your refrigerator and she wants to rule in YOUR kitchen.

Where do these whack jobs get out of our private lives? Have you seen any of the health care legislation?

You know the interesting thing about that film, planetguy? Things were falling out of the sky, just like those in DC attempting to blanket the nation with their ideas.

I do not want public education telling my children or anyone else's what is right to eat and what is not. It is not the role of government to do so. I will explain to my own children what they should eat. The same for every other aspect of their lives until on their own.

If you want a nanny state, I'm not happy to see you leave America, but better that than you sit around and allow politicians tell Americans what they can and cannot do, and speak against those who see the Republic being "changed" right in front of our eyes.

well, i see it as no different than PE class. are you gonna rail against PE because you don't want schools TELLING YOUR CHILDREN they need to exercise for their health? are you gonna be up in arms when they TELL you children it's unsafe to play on RR tracks? or is it just "thank you very much..I'LL tell them whether exercise is healthy or not!" "I'LL tell them whether or not it's safe to play on RR tracks!"

I will explain to my own children what they should eat. The same for every other aspect of their lives until on their own.

ah...i see you're homeschooling then. sure.....teach them anything and everything YOU think fit.

but for me, i know that if i had ONE person, one teacher explaining and sharing only THEIR views, opinions, and world views.....i would have missed out on much.

If you want a nanny state....

see, that's nothing but condescending short hand thinking right there. anyone that doesn't share YOUR views of gov't hands off mindset automatically equals...."wanting a nanny state", "wanting gov't to take care of every little need". trust me, that has never been my view and never will.
