My car club has been wanting a PA system for events to run music and announcements. The board was all set to spend $1000 and I volunteered to do a little craigslist fishing first to see what I could find.

The bad: Wow there are a lot of flakes out there! I looked at three sets of speakers, all whose ads said "works great" "good condition" "sound excellent" ... Nope. Blown horns, blown woofers, fried x-overs. Sheesh! Did they think no one would notice??

The good: Found a nice set of Yamaha S115IV cabs and a Crate PA-6 head for $400. The gear is in like new condition, sounds great with music and mics and will easily run at 120db all day long. Scoreboard!

In the end it took a lot longer to do than I planned but I'm sure the club will be happy with the result. Slinking around chasing quality used gear is actually something I enjoy.

Selling off gear can be a real trial for a gearholic . . . :?

George you got that right, Ive got a trailer full of pa gear.

Stuff in an outdoor shed, opened this cab in my garage the other day and had 4 Peavey International pa speakers that i had forgotten about.

Then come in the house and go thru one of my closets, and Ive got an old 4 track cassette machine, that weighs a ton, all sorts of drum machines, effects pedals, guitars, strings, straps, etc etc etc......

It just goes on and on, need to have a yard sale for music.

I did a few monthes ago sell off a bunch of my dirt bike racing things, but I wound up buying my son and myself another bike a piece, LOL

I guess Im the poster child for the man that dies with the most toys!!!!!

Yep, I sold off a bunch of gear two years ago, some of which would have been perfect for the car club. Now it's time to sell off round two: excess recording gear and guitar amps I don't use. My basic rule is, if I haven't used it in two years and it's not part of my heritage, it's outta here. It never ends.

And I saw this beautiful 1968 Martin 0018 today...

Selling the heavy stuff is tough, but anything that can be shipped can be offloaded on Ebay pretty easily.

I'm still looking for a couple of not-too-big powered PA cabs, if anyone's got them gathering dust!
