A letter Einstein wrote challenging the idea of God and of Jews being "chosen people" is expected to sell for $3 million.

the definition of a hypocrite is,
a person who promotes a moral code and then acts contrary to it, or a person who promotes atheism because he perceives that is the view of the majority.

Albert Einstein's views on God and religion were complicated and changed throughout his lifetime. As a young man it was his goal to define God in mathematical terms. He did not succeed.

Some of his most famous quotes on the subject:

"All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree."

"Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."

"What separates me from most so-called atheists is a feeling of utter humility toward the unattainable secrets of the harmony of the cosmos." (Albert Einstein to Joseph Lewis, Apr. 18, 1953)

"When the answer is simple, God is speaking." (Albert Einstein)

If we are honest, each of us have moments when we question our faith. If you think Al is complicated, read Sir Issac Newton on religion (before the mercury poisoning).

We may at least, be content to know that Mr. Einstein is now fully versed in the truth or untruth of God's existance.

It helps always to remember that with human beings, we tend to grow into our beliefs and they do change in the seaons of our lives. As an amateur historian I'm always amused when writers speak of so and so as believing firmly that 'it is always this way.' The truth of course, is that so and so happened to speak those words during one hour of his life.

I was myself athiest for a while, although I wasn't very good at it... 8)

J7 thanks for posting this. It brings Al back down to humanity! I have always thought of him as MORE than a man! This post has caused me to think of Einstein in a way I never have and thank you for that! Basically he had the same personal battles I have had with religion. Ironically after reading MikeNobody's post it is CRAZY the parallel's! Mike and I have fought like Hell in the past. I have vowed to be more patient when I talk politics or religion on this site! Having said that we all grow in our own way!

One would have to be insane to claim that they are chosen by some god. But the craziest part is that these people act on this manufactured self serving believe by stealing other people’s land and justifying it by saying they have a divine mandate. That reminds me, my god gave me a mandate as well, to take my neighbor’s house, car and wife. God also gave me a bully friend living down the street who will help me to enforce his will.

BTW are “chosen People” = master race?
And if Jews are the chosen why did god give all the oil to the arabs?

Ok you all religious freakazoids, don’t you think that the world must be governed by the rule of the law and not by superstition?
Have a nice weekend and don’t forget to donate to your local god’s representative, he needs a new car.

They were chosen alright - to be slaves in Egypt, wander the desert for 40 years, and fight with their neighbors for a little strip of land that was given to them after WWII in a misguided effort to resolve 2000 years of senseless fighting. The mistake we made was settling them in the middle east - the allies should have given them land far from there, like Poland or Germany.

We should've settled them out in the middle of the American deserts, like the Indians.

If I thought you were actually earnest in your questions, I'd give a very viable and plausible explanation why ( I think) the Jews are God's Chosen. But unfortunately, you have neither the philosophical capacity in your mind, nor enough room in your hate-filled heart to embrace, comprehend and wrap your head around it.

Here's an example of an idiot in Congress who's 100 years behind the times.
