He is my personal favorite living drummer. Technically excellent, always tasteful and gives the other players a lot of creative room. He never seems to overplay the song. He gained his credentials while playing with Zappa and Sting. Now he plays with everybody.

Yeah, Vinnie is one of the big guns out there. You can see a lot of Tony Williams in his playing. Some Steve Gadd influence, too.

He's become a master of beat displacement. Aside from older guys like Mike Clark, Vinnie is credited with "writing the book" on that subject, along with Dave Weckle.
