Good read... But of all the steps, they need to add one more ... The artist really needs to bring good music to the table... That's often overlooked...I'm not joking... There are lots of young bloods striking poses on CDbaby and they suck... They fill and kill the venue that relies on the quality factor of available music.

I know kid here in town who tries to self promote...and I support him whole heartedly , but sometimes his efforts turn into an embarrassment...I feel for the guy... The best way in his case is to get a good agent, which wont be easy until the music stands on its own consistently...(Which has the potential in his case)

Interesting. The practical nature of knowing your audience seemed the strangest help.

Just wondering. Are there ANY management companies/record labels which actually search for and sign/record artists that have actual musicianship abilities? The whole "one hit wonders" angle was touched upon in the article. Just wondering if there's anything out there which actually wants to find and promote talent, not culture.
