Hey folks, my measly high school education from 1977 is really a BLUR LMAO! MOST of you folks on this site "have no idea" how highly regarded YOUR intellect is (by the mulletman) Oh and by the way that is a self imposed handle!
I have bared my soul to you folks and completely agree HEY "I aint perfect" having said that I work with PHD professors ALL DAY! When I come to this site I feel I am talking to musicians! I know, I know I should always put my best foot forward and type everything I post here as though it is a research paper? Please understand I am NOT scolding anyone because I sincerely appreciate you GOOD folks holding my DELBERT @SS to the fire! I am a WAYYyyy better human being for having known you WONDERFUL brethren musicians! At work in my professional life I dot the i's and cross the t's but PALEEZE forgive me if I mis-spell "stuff" here because I am just being Me :)

Grammar, spelling, and punctuation are irrelevant to musicianship.

Hehe...I never missed a spelling word on a test in my life, I guess it just came naturally...or from the fact that encyclopedias and dictionary were my favorite books, I read them literally every day. When I wasn't playing guitar...

So I notice it more than most people. My pet peeve is when people think a plural uses an apostrophe...it's two GUITARS not two GUITAR'S...the apostrophe is used for contractions, like DIDN'T or DON'T and for possessive pronouns like JIM'S guitar or BOB'S piano. But not for plurals. That's one I don't think you do...

And the word TOO when TO should be used. Or vice versa... I've seen several others, but can't think of them offhand...

One other thing that I find really irritating is when people want to impress us with their incredible intelligence, and I see spelling and grammar that is absolutely horrible...you want me to think your (not YOU'RE) opinion is the only one worth considering and you can't spell or use punctuation any better than most 3rd graders???? Go fly a kite...

In your case you do better than a lot of people, although I do spot one now and then. If I point it out, consider it educational or constructive criticism, rather than nit picking on your faults.

Most browsers include a spelling checker. Mine underlines everything with a squiggly red line. Usually it's typos...like right there, I hit the L key 3 times, it picked it up. Rarely it will catch me in a spelling mistake, I'm not perfect...but my actual spelling checker is in my head. I keep it right between my ears...not much gets by that one...

But don't be insulted if I point one out now and then, it's not intended to be insulting or embarrassing. I hope it's been obvious I'm not making a big deal out of it..just pointing out something I though you might need to be aware of, so you'd know next time.

Pete - you must be related to my wife - when she sees apostrophes used incorrectly - menus, newspapers, signs, she pulls out a pen or marker and corrects them!

That's funny...odd you should mention newspapers. I'm absolutely appalled at the spelling, punctuation and grammar errors I see in both printed newspapers and online news sites. Is there no such thing as a proofreader any more??? or did he get no further than 3rd grade too???

He got downsized out of existence.
Actual journalism got it's budget cut to nothing long ago.
You think they really care about proofreading?

Language, especially in the written form, is a direct indicator of intelligence and education. There is no excuse for improper spelling on the web other than sheer laziness. People who use 'to' instead of 'too' or 'there' instead of 'their' are judged by those who can properly use language; sorry it's just the way it is.

i don't get cranky over poor grammar or spelling but i can't help noticing it. i am mostly able to refrain from making snap judgements about the guilty party.

in addition to the miscues mentioned above... a super common one is folks confusing "you're" and "your". the first being a contraction ....you are, and "your" showing possession. errors like that might prove you're confused about your grammar.

two other language pet peeves of mine:

using "irregardless" when what you actually mean is regardless.
c'mon people! the prefix "irr" means not. irregular. irrational. irrelevant. so if you mean regardless.....say regardless, because adding the prefix "irr" really would be the same as saying NOT-regardless!

using excessive words like "in actuality" when "in actuality".....don't you really just mean "actually"?

BTW jeff...for my money you don't have to apologize or feel funny about having "only" a HS education. i'm a HS dropout. dropped out in 11th grade and got my GED the next yr when i was old enough to take the test.

Much appreciated Billy!

My pet peeve is when your debating or argueing with someone and they point out you grammatical error's or your poor spelling to win (at least they think their winning) an argument!

Perhaps we should make this thread a "pet peave" thread!

well, i do get a kick and enjoy the irony out of having a disagreement w someone (usually over something political) and then the person feels the need to question your smarts......when in fact their post has all kinds of spelling, punctuation, and grammar mistakes!

takes a little wind out of their sails i'd say.
