I charge 15.00 and they get:

Winner= 200. 00 + Studio Time. (When available by a willing engineer)
2nd place = 100.00
3rd Place = 50.00

I like the web announcement/bio profile idea... Guess I'll throw that in too, soon... :)

Reverbnation profiles take 5 minutes to set up, host MP3s with just file size (not total) limits and are free!

These contests are mostly bullshit and for suckers. If you look at what they're offering and how much money the organizers take in, you see the true goal. They give you some crappy contract with a non-existent label or never heard of label, mentoring from a has been producer, some cheap gear, if that much. In the end, the contest comes and goes and these artists aren't any better off for it.

But, from the organizers standpoint, you get thousands of hopefuls paying their $30 - think of how much money that is? They split it between those involved or pay them a portion for "judging."

It's really sad. And when I spoke out against them, I was told I was "whining" so whatever, let them dump their 30 smackers and hope that they'll win.

Those contests are not sincere about their efforts to galvanize musicians...Musician walk away with nothing for the experience.

BUT My Contest is different. My goal is break even (and I'm severely out of pocket in the hole now) , and bring the music community in town together... Its a long row to ho but I'm gettin there... My judges panel has been instructed to ensure constructive feedback. There are no mentors... Contestents show up, sign up, step up, present, get assessed and somebody wins Cash, trophy and a t-shirt.

I am opening tomorrow night at a small honky-tonk blues bar, in which I shall proceed to show the audience and contestants the morphing ... from a song idea to a full song-construct. (See "She dont Love me any more" on my profile. I will use that as the example (ala acoustic version) ).

My aim is for folks to walk away with great, cool memories 8)
