I have been doing some remodeling on my site here at bandmix. I am thinking I had too much music on my profile. Wondering why some of YOU fellow musicians have asked about some songs. I have always been a chearleader for friends and promoted their bands and songs above mine. What do you think?

Consuelo:Love southwestern Hispanic flavor. I can imagine a young woman on the move, in a thriving city...
The lead work is damn good. the rthym is alive and got me adrenalin going. Lots of good energy. Mix needs more contrast in the texture between rythyms and the leads...(Bring up the bass lines a lil more) Great paralleled tracking with the lead . (Would like to have heard more of it through the song ) Not sure if levels could be tweaked on those.

Lucky Stars: Nice lively song here. Vocals in the main verse could come forward (a little less 'Hall" effect for this theme and style.) Love the Harmony vocals ! This has a Clapton feel to it, and of course your guitar work is excellent. Great song!

Life Goes on. Excellent display of your lead skills here. Lot of variety in your patterns, and you really know how to blend the hard electric with the softer guitar counters. Dude you are a master on that neck. You Absolutely smoke the crap out of a lot of other players here...

Let Her Go: Very similar to Life Goes On, except with lyrics. I couldnt help but notice ..your lyric content sounds like the tale of every good ol fashion Houston heart broken gal, behind the glass , looking out at the rainy day... ;) I say this cause I think you captured a certain dilemma that Houstion gals seem to run into...Am I right or wrong? :D Again Vocals gotta come forward and in this case, thump that bass with more ennunciation.

My favorite outta of these is Lucky Stars

Grant, thanks for listening! When I mixed these songs I didn't have any flat response monitors. I mixed them via headphones a poor way to mix indeed and the reason for poor mix.

Jeff,

I wished I could listen to your songs again. My outdated browser and uber slow line modem (44Kbps with downloads at a blazing 4KBPS at times ) will not allow me to listen to updated Bandmix adobe player stuff or watch YouTube vids anymore. I guess my internet usage is now limited to posting and spending money for toys on the Internet. However, as I stated before, I have bought albums that don't have songs as good as some of yours that you have posted. I do miss listening to member music more than watching YouTube vids.

Hey Jeff , just to qualify my take about vocals, Its been my contention that the faster the lyric delivery, the closer to the listener's ear you wanna get with them... When vocals are in the back, if the words aren't precisely articulated, there is a risk of getting them lost on the audience (aurally) . A good example, just listen to any song that uses counter melodies (vocals) which stay in the back... Usually those wont carry a lot of lyrical weight for the reasons mentioned.

Make no mistake bro, Your material Rocks and has resounding commercial quality... Would be nice to see you take them to a full blown studio.

Grant, thanks again!

"Consuelo" was my stepmom that commited suicide in 1975. She bought me my first classical guitar from the common market that used to be at 59 & Westpark. I had owned many electrics and acoustics but no classical. she bought that guitar for my birthday Oh how I miss her! this song is a tribute to her memory! :(

"Lucky Stars" is about depression Lord knows we have ALL experienced that demon at one time or another!

"Life Goes On" is an instrumental and I don't know what the hell that ones about LMAO! It just came from somewhere inside my creative little peabrain.

"Let Her Go" I was raised by woman. My mom and her mother! They both had their hearts broken early in life by selfish @ssholes! That is what this song is about. In the song there is a line "so many men in this world will not even know what they had, turn love on turn it off this thing called love can be so very sad" and yes it is about Texas heartbroken woman mainly Houston! You nailed that one. It is good to know that I am getting that point across. Sometimes when I write songs I want the meaning to be known. Other time I want to leave the meaning of the song to the listener. Obscurity in song can leave the listener to imagine different meaning and when they think of a song it means something to them personally. Thats my theory and I'm schticking to it LOL!

Thank you Sir! You are one of my all time fav. guitar players! Maybe next time you can listen I'll have some new songs. I have been playing a LOT of gigs and I am so looking forward to winter. With a SLIGHT drop off in gigs and the holidays coming I usually plan this down time for remodeling and honey do's around the house! This year I am hoping (fingers crossed) I'll spend the time recording and finishing songs in my home studio! :D
