The current line up..(uggh) and I tried out a new bass player last night.

He was a nice enough guy but he wasn't very good.
He certainly thought he was though.

So rather than be rude, we decided to jam on it a bit. (we were already there, why not take advantage of the situation, right?)

So I played some bass and we basically were switching things up to see who could play what and I ended up playing keys last night.

Oddly enough, it wasn't half bad. Evidently the chords are the same so I took about 5 minutes to get my head together and I actually managed to play keys in a functional manner. lol

No one was more shocked than myself. I laughed my way through the entire thing and at the end, the would be bass player asked me if I wanted to play keys in "his other band".

I just stifled a laugh and told him the age old "I'll get back to you on that one". lol

Wish we had a recording of some of it..alas there is none.

Ever end up playing an instrument you didn't know you could play>?

Capt,,, That's why you should pick up one of those little digital recorders.
I have a little Olympus. The things are great.

That's how I got started on bass... actually, that's what I do with most instruments. I'll just sit there and goof off until I stumble on something I like, then I'll spend the next several hours trying to figure out how I did it.

Oh, and I second Glenny's suggestion. My iPod has a built-in voice recorder, so I always keep it around when I'm playing...

Great story. Stories like that give a guy a lot of laughs through the years.

Yeah I already have a digital recorder, Les got me started using it.

It's loaded to the gills now..one of my jam buddies was "fingering" it and I told him that I'd outright chop his hand off if he didn't stop touching it.

It's a "SanDisk" and I definitely like it.

The other one I got a chance to look at and test is the Tascam DR-07 MKII.

Nice recorder..especially at around 100$.
