Following the EPA estimate that 62000 people die from second hand smoke every year. (more than people that smoke die). Local towns have been smoking on local beaches. Smithtown followed suit,,, It is politically correct.
Now mind you this is not about smoking as much as it is an attack on personal freedoms. This not about smoking in a car or a house or a even a restaurant. Especially in these places that children shouldn't be exposed to. This is about smoking in a big open space. This is about control and a LAW that was passed by 5 council members. A law to protect everyone.
Anyway being the pain in the butt that I am, I grabbed the biggest badass stogie I could find. I went down to the beach. (it was nice)
Now I don't smoke cigars, even though I love the smell.
I lit that sucker up.
Within 5 minutes I had a park ranger all over my butt. How convenient. I won't even go into all the levels of local government that are NOT NEEDED.

Any way the conversation went something like this...
"Smoking in town parks is now against the law"
me"Oh really, thanks for the information."
him"I have to ask you to put that out"
me "oh really, you expect me to destroy my personal property"
him " I'm not asking you, I am telling you before I write you up"
me,as I puffed on my big fat stogie,"write me up"
him "I will, give me your license"
me " I don't have one, I am an illegal immigrant"
It got even worse, it got even more ridiculous. In the end a small town worker put him self in harms way.

I'm gonna go do it again!!!
Don't fool around with freedoms in bullshoot ways. This was not about smoking, this was and is about submission to government control. The government that we are supposed to be control. YEAH RIGHT!!!!

I hate smoking. My wife smokes and I don't. I've been begging her to quit at least in the house. Now that I am having lung problems she has no choice. But I also HATE smoking bans in PUBLIC OUTDOORS. It is INSANE. What about the MILLIONS of vehicles belching untold amounts of far greater noxious fumes than a stogie. Should vehicles be banned from PUBLIC OUTDOORS? There's entire towns that now only allow smoking in private individual houses. These ridiculous smoking bans should be abolished.

Jeff, Sorry, I don't mean to to post stuff like this, cause in the end it really doesn't mean anything.
What does is this... This is what I run into. Picture this.. An older couple, near their 80s, always played by the "rules" trying to maintain their independence, no family, sad.
I walk in in the heating equipment is crap, they are walking around in coats in the middle of the winter, no government help in sight, no oil in the tank, and these are the people that 60 years ago put there lives on the the line to protect America.
I don't have that much money, but when I can it was just a couple of bucks in parts and a couple of bucks in oil, (Gwen just sent our truck over)
That doesn't bother me as much as the fact that they had a few cans of DOG FOOD on their counter.

They didn't have a dog.

Are you saying they had to eat dog food? Their dog could have died. That is aggravating that old people have to choose between food and heat. That was a good thing you did! It will come back to you! Again I say you are AWESOME!

That is horrible, but truth be told, Glenn, this isn't new. Old people have been eating dog food even when I was a kid when Nixon was in office and people said the same thing you're saying now.

One thing I can say it's getting worse and the Ball of Confusion only bigger. I think about when I become a senior citizen and I'm going how the heck will I afford a place to stay? They raise my rent here at the park $40 a year and this happened BEFORE Obama was in office, so it wasn't his fault. And it will continue to happen after he's out of office. The inflation is just moving at a rate where people just can't keep up.

But I dont' plan on being here. As soon as the kids are out of school, I'm going back to Europe or somewhere foreign.

Glen Bro! Do you realize how expensive dog food is now? Hell I could by a can of Spam for less these days... Also, many canned foods are less than a dollar, but I have these tiny cans of Cat food (I have a cat with three names) which cost 1.60 a can at Petco and almost 2 buck at other stores in my area..

What the elderly/and the Vets need is a Meals On Wheels Program... I have considered volunteering...Right now my own plate is full of obligations, but I am keeping that one within sight for future.

I'm on the fence with smoking...

I strongly believe we should be allowed to do whatever we want, with our bodies or otherwise, so long as it doesn't infringe on other peoples rights to do the same.

And that's the kicker with smoking. I personally think the statistics on 2nd hand smoke are severely skewed, but there's always some truth to be had. For instance, if any of you have ever been in a car with someone who smoked and didn't roll down, or even crack the windows, it's noxious and not far removed from directly smoking. On the beach, different story, the smoke is mostly diffused and blows away quickly.

BUT.. if someone is say.. downwind of you- they are still being inundated with unwanted smoke from you. It's a very arguable issue.

I smoke. I had quit for 3 years and started back up just recently. I try very hard to keep my smoking away from non-smokers and outdoors. I never smoke indoors unless it's a bar that caters to smokers. There are very few here, as the law was changed to ban smoking in most bars.

I never agreed with that law, simply because it's a private business. If they want to allow smoking, or NOT allow smoking, that should be their choice- let the customers decide what they do or don't want. If a smoking bar loses all it's customers, then fine, they made the wrong choice. It's stupid for our politicians to regulate that.

AND NOW, they are taking it a step further by regulating individual healthcare INSTEAD of the industry that provides it. NEXT we will see potato chips and ice cream be either banned or regulated.. like smoking, it will drive your insurance policy up.. If you think it ain't coming.. you are naive.

What comes after that? I don't know, but thinking about it scares the hell out of me.

Our corporate and economic systems have taken over our society, our very behavior.. I don't know any other term that describes it better than fascism.
