A generic look at politics this election year
So, I'm probably crazy for starting a thread about something I've said I would avoid, but I'm seeing a LOT of really crazy threads with a lot of incredible hostility, so maybe we can focus on the common ground, instead of the divisive stuff? I dunno, here's my take on everything political....
Obama / Biden:
Frankly, Obama was really great at running for office 4 years ago. I thought he was earnest and he said all the things people wanted to hear. Too bad he fell short on every level. I was in support of him based on his promises, but lets forget every individual thing he did or didn't do and focus on the one really BIG item...
Among all his promises, the big one was that he would listenand support the will of the American people. I guess he meant only the wealthy ones? Lie of omission maybe..?
He has stunningly ignored the will of the people at every turn. The people want to end the war on drugs, a public option on healthcare, no forced purchase of healthcare, end the wars, stop the corruption, investigate and prosecute war crimes, end torture, PROSECUTE WALL ST, etc..
He failed on every single level
Biden is ok by me, no issues there.
I actually liked McCain.. but Palin was such a trainwreck that even the remote possibility of her being in a position to become president seemed like a disaster waiting to happen.
Romney/Ryan: Romney is frankly part of the problem with this country. He's got seriously questionable ethics when it comes to buyouts and scrapping companies, at the expense of american jobs. His tax returns are extremely suspect, he might legallly be paying less taxes, but he's still paying less taxes percentage-wise than almost the bottom 50% of employed americans. It's just not right, he's a member of the club.. the wealthy one where they look down on poor people as lazy and unmotivated. Do we really want him in office? Would he protect american jobs after having a history of sending so many overseas and to employment lines?
I base my judgments not on what someone says, but what they've done. Romney just has too many skeletons in his closet.
So does Ryan. The evidence that he was doing insider trading while getting secret info in congress is damning and difficult to deny, although that's exactly what he's doing. He was also the speaker at a gathering honoring Ayn Rands life work and declared in his speech that she's the whole reason he's in politics and that he requires all his campaign workers to read her work, and provides copies of atlas shrugged and the fountainhead to them. He denied it recently, this year, although it's a matter of record and has been for a long time.
Romney and Ryan, nothing but deny deny deny, even when the facts are absolute and damning.. and the mass media refuses to really call them out on it.
So Obama and Romney, both shiztbags. Screw em, I'm voting for Jill Stein.. at least her history and her mouth say the same thing. Can't say that for either of the assclowns offered by the dem and rep parties.
Abortion: Really? With all the problems we have in the world and this incredible recession, people have time for this? IT CAN WAIT.
Same goes for:
Immigration - enforce the existing laws, deal with new ones later.
Religion in schools - same thing, keep existing crap in place, deal with later.
Gay marriage / gay rights - same again. Take a break from it. everyone.
Issues that are deemed wedge that NEED to be addressed:
Environment - Nobody will ever agree on how much GW is man-made, and many even deny GW exists. Gigantic ice shelves falling off greenland and anartica kind of put that to rest, it's happening, like it or not, but still we can't agree on why.
There's an idea that doing something about it might change the outcome and set the planet back on the right track, or at least "back to normal" over time. Many disagree even on whether or not we're past the tipping point.
I think where I come in is this- It seems that the cost to do something will be great, actually extreme. We would have to embrace green technologies and find a way to live on renewable resources only. We would have to reduce the population of the planet by half or more.. we would be in a permanent recession for at least two to four generations while things "settle backwards". Is it worth it?
I think the best way to answer that is to ask, is the risk of doing nothing, continuing on our present course worth it if GW destroys the ability of the planet to harbor life?
I dunno if I'm personally willing to take that chance. It's my daughter, nephew and neices, and their kids who will have to deal with the outcome. In think about them and not myself or my way of life, the 1st solution to get ourselves right seems like a no-brainer.
War.
It needs to end. Period. We gotta pull back, get independent of oil (drill at home while we develop alternatives), and worry about our own borders. Forget Iran, Afghanistan, and all the other crap. defend our borders and stop screwing with the world. Our budget would be 10% of what it currently is and we'd be safer. Our defense budget is borderline insane.
End corruption
Let's face it, our politicians are beyond corrupt. Not one person in office has no skeletons in their closets. The entire election process is rigged by proxy that we get given a choice between a giant douchebag and a sh*t sandwich every time (yea, south park reference). It's true, and all of them are owned by corporate america and wall st. More than 50% of the entire population are suffering for it, and it will only get worse. We need to crush the connection between corp and govt, and only if we stand together as an entire population and demand change (by OUR stipulations, not theirs) will it ever happen. Americans need a massive show of force, and soon.
I'm sure there's quite a few issues I missed, but in the end we're all Americans (at least the legal ones here in the USA
) and our country was taken from us.. slowly .. stealthily.. Our freedoms have long been taken from us.. corporations now have more rights than we do. They can kill, steal, plunder, sabotage, pollute, poison, and pillage our public trusts, and are exempt from any prosecution. Soon, we will probably be jailed for expressing such opinions.
And they are brilliant in that they still got us fighting like children over two colors.. red vs. blue, both with their wedge issues securely in place to keep everyone well divided.
I'm green.
