Wow the late great Danny Gatton! You know whats crazy is the way he changes, stretches and tunes his strings is EXACTLY the way I do and I've never seen this before! I also use that same A chord A LOT it really ads for a BIG sound if you are in a 3 piece especially during the ending of a song.
Slacker plays a lot like Danny and reminds me A LOT of him Kudo's to you Slacker you da man on this site!

I use that A chord form a lot too, I also move it up and down the neck, is a real stretch at times, try it!

first finger for the root, second finger for the 5th and octave and then stretch the pinky out for the top two notes, I used to exercise doing things like that, now it kinda comes naturally to me and I dont even realize what Im doing.

he had very little commercial appeal when compared to a Led Zeppelin or Elton John, .. good technique though...

Yep, Gatton tears it up. He is one of the reasons I got a Tele a few years ago but I still can't touch him.

actually he had tons of commercial appeal,
but hated traveling and constantly turned away offers from NY California and vegas.

his inability to reconcile his enormous talent with the demands of show business may have contributed to his black depressions.
well that the story round here, and round here is where he lived.
He was a southern MD boy.
he never really wanted to be anything else.

what I meant by commercial appeal was I don't recall him getting much radio play or record sales, not say, like an Elton John in the 1970's.... I know he had a cult following though, and became aware of him in Guitar Player magazine eons ago..

I think maybe you need to put this assumption in context

he was a player not a pop artist.

he was not as commercially successful as Elton John as a PLAYER or a POP ARTIST ... although he was a good guitar player..
