Signing up for a competition

Just got word that there's a band competition coming up here in august that should be fun. It will last 1 month, 1 show a week with the finalists playing on the 4th week for a $500 paid gig at the Lafayette Art and Wine festival. So basically, we're gonna enter to try to get the Festival spot.

I'm pretty stoked. It's stuff like this that gets me excited. Getting to play in front of people, and if we do well, then playing to an audience for a couple of weeks straight. That's just neato skeato! Anyhoo, wish us luck. Gonna be fun no matter how it goes.

Cheers!

So do you do a full night as part of the contest, or just a set a week? If you win, basically $250 a night for 2 gigs? Exposure is good, pay should be better!

@GuitarMikeB : It's a total of 4 nights plus the fair if we win. So 1/2 hour sets (once a week for as many weeks as we do good). if we get through all 4 weeks (fingers crossed), we'll be main-stage for a big set at a pretty big festival, so everyone in the band is pretty excited about the whole thing.

thanks jw! We're introducing "Stop Breaking my Heart" this week with a guest singer at an open mic. Hoping to get her to sing it with us one of those competition nights. I'm pretty excited ~ my first duet on stage with a really good singer :) I love harmonizing!

Thanks

Hi Chris! I wish you the best of luck and hope you win the contest. I was just in a competition not too long ago that was sponsored by Guitar Center and a local radio station. It was a guitar solo contest where you had to improvise over various backing tracks. I placed first and won this:

Good luck again my friend!

Chris, is this an original? Are you presenting original material for your performances or covers?

Good luck SirJamsAlot, I hope you guys get your spot. :) Curious to see your response if it's covers or originals you'll be doing?

It's "Stop Draggin my Heart around" by Stevie Nicks/Tom Petty. I think we nailed the harmonies last night at open mic. Such a fun song to play/sing.

But yah, we're a cover band - haven't done any originals yet. Just got word the format changed - we'll be playing just 1 night instead of four :( Kindof makes me sad - I really wanted to do back-to-back weeks. But oh well - we just gotta nail this one performance.

Thanks guys!

The game, as I understand it...is to just roll with what you get handed and then proceed to knock the Fn socks of the audience by giving them the most intense X number of minutes they will ever experience...

DO that a few times and I'm guessing they will bust down your door for more stage time... 8)

I hope so :) I just want people to have a good time - that's how I have a good time.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement!
