What are some good dating sites to try?

As a way to start my search for some buddies to play some pop and soft rock music with, a few people had mentioned to try some dating sites, but the ones mentioned (Match.com and eHarmony) were sites where I'd have to pay to use the full service as well as sites where matches are decided by a computer (thus it doesn't necessarily match me with soemone in Baton Rouge) and also places where matches are based around questions pertaining to sex, politics, religion, instead of the matches being based on what's written in my profile and what I look for in these special friends.

What are some good free ones to try? By good ones, I mean, ones that are not your trashy "hook up" sites, and thus those that I can use to narrow down my search to those in my area who are looking for friends.

I want to avoid sites where a majority of the individuals will take advantage of me, and where the site has a "nightclub" feel.

Thanks for your help,

Clifford

There must be a lot of hungry gators in Baton Rouge that would Love
to eat you up. A chewy little nyeve thing like you might get caught
in their teeth though.[/b]

What exactly do you mean by "hungry gators" and "chewy little nyeve thing"?

I'm trying to find a buddy (and possible boyfriend) like Adam Lambert, or Kris Allen, or Andrew McMahon, or even Matt Nathanson. Someone who is boyishly cute, talented, a great guy to be around, and an intelligent individual.

OK kid I'm sorry for picking at you. You got to understand that you
are in the wrong place here. You will only get frustration here. Go find
some other site more suited to your, uh, style. This is not it.
Good Luck.[/b]

What do you think I've been trying to do through these different posts? I'm trying to get some good solid ideas of where else to go BECAUSE this place isn't working for me.

This has to be the WEIRDEST bunch of threads anybody has ever started on Bandmix. I've been on Bandmix for quite a while and Cliffy takes the cake. ALL the advice that anybody has given him, whether serious or not, gets SHOT DOWN. Why even bother asking for advice on anything when you ALWAYS shoot it down?

I am NOT shooting down ANY of the advice. This is all a big missunderstanding. What looks like me turning down the advice, is simply me telling the given person that I need help in gaining knowledge of specifics, and in some cases, giving the person who's helping me FURTHER information on what I've already tried in hopes that he could provide something better.

On top of that, I was hoping that I could reach more individuals who are willing to share their experiences (good and bad) and connect with other hobbying musicians, and those who play and enjoy more of the music I like.

I am not forcing anyone to do anything they don't want to do.

Come on, where is my intended audience? Guys who I can have some deeper conversations with and LEARN about some better websites where I can connect with amateur and intermediate level musicians, and maybe a few professionals who like playing good pop and soft rock music.

Why didn't you shoot down your buddies' advice like you've shot down every piece of advice you got from this site. At face value, this piece of advice is perhaps the SILLIEST piece of advice I've ever heard. Find musicians at a dating service? REALLY??

Here's solid advice for you:
1. Go to open mics - network
(if you say, "there are no good open mics in my area" - then MOVE).

2. Post wanted ads at local music shops
(if you say "there are no music shops in my area" - then MOVE).

3. Post ads on Craigs List for your area
(if you say, "no one is replying" - then Keep posting)

4. Post music on your Bandmix Profile so people can hear if you're worth their time musically
(if you say, "but I don't have any good recordsings of myself" - then MAKE one.

Bottom line is - everyone on this site does what a musician does to get into the music scene - SACRIFICE, PERSERVERE and GO TO WHERE THE MUSICIANS are. It's just what you have to do. Making excuses accomplishes nothing. I busted my ass for 2 solid years to get myself into a position where I could surround myself with musicians to open up doors to play in a band. I work full-time - 8am to 6 PM every day. I come home from work and spend the evening with my family til they go to bed every night. THEN I pick up my guitar and practice til 2:00 A.M. every night. I don't see my family on Tuesday nights because that's when I practice with my band.

If I can do it - then you can too. But you have to Sacrifice and DO IT. Stop making excuses about how the world does not line up with how you want it to be. You have to align yourself to how the world operates. End of story.

Good day sir.
