On my cell phone I check out ESPN reports. At this time we don't get cable. I guess they have the world champion hot dog eating contest every July 4 and ESPN reported on it again. Somehow I can't see hot dog eating a sport. Some of the ESPN stations have poker tournaments. I don't consider that a sport, or bass fishing for that matter. A competitive sport takes PHYSICAL ability, or at least that's my definition. I wonder if they have cheerleaders at the hot dog eating contest, poker tournaments or bass fishing contests. Years ago ESPN used to have Aussie Rules Football on, mainly at night. Now THAT'S a helluva fun sport to watch. Those guys practically kill each other with absolutely zero padding for protection. Maybe if they combined hot dog eating with mixed martial arts, people trying to prevent their opponents from eating hot dogs, or full contact poker, or two guys beating each other up on a bass boat, that would be a sport...

And the SyFy channel has wrestling!

Apparently there were two hot dog eating contests. My daughter went to the one not sponsored by Nathan's and met the great Kobyashi (sp?), the guy who's won it like six times (the last time with 65.5!!). The sport part comes in not from the competition of eating 65 hot dogs, but from the ab muscles needed to keep DOWN 65 hot dogs.

The winner ate 68 in ten minutes! A truly sporting gesture..

. Have you ever raced a car, even a go cart? When is the last time you saw a fat, out of shape Nascar driver? Do you remember the Superstar TV show that pitted superstar athletes in many different sports against other superstars in athletic events they did not star in? Do you know who consistently did extremely well in those events? Race car drivers. Race car drivers have to have incredible endurance and razor sharp reflexes. The top drivers in Nascar are seriously great athletes. Somebody who can shove a high number of hot dogs in his (or her) stomach is a freak of nature, not an athlete. Just like somebody who sits on their ass in a poker tournament is playing a game, not an athlete. Some events are not worthy of being covered by ESPN, including bass tournaments. And I'm a fisherman.

that little Japanese dude is not fat and is quite athletic, think of the training that is required to down dozens of hot dogs, you would need good throat muscles and as stated earler by Jimmy great abs to hold the food down once in the stomach.. I would bet Kyle Petty Jr. is not athletic enough to gulp down dozens of hot dogs in a set time period..plus there are certain techniques required to down that many hot dogs, such as squeezing the air out of the buns etc. you need to squeeze the air out of the buns to get the mass condensed down.. now as far as conditioning is concerned regarding race car drivers, I think they need to be fit, but only to keep from having heat related issues (caused from heat off the engine and track) give them a heart attack or stroke.. pretty easy physically to guide it between the yellow lines...been there done that..
