Ditto that Jeff, JW!

I was asked by another vet if I supported Makers or Takers... I told him that I supported both, that I had been both, and that this was the only country around, that allowed both.. We had both agreed that she (The US ) should always be defended (with extreme prejudice where necessary) , to preserve both).

All In our one, great Family, friends!

I salute Our Vets 8)

I've lived in a free country. It wasn't the United States.

Our young idealistic soldiers go out there to fight for freedom while meanwhile back home we have let it erode to the point where calling this a free country is disingenuous.

Consider what a shock it would be for on of our young troopers to be popped back into the '50s. It would be freakish for him. Calm, orderly people, freedom that bordered on what now days would be called 'anarchy.'

Yet those very people, those calm pleasant, freedom loving people of the '50s, who had fought the nazis and Japanese and stomped them into the ground...those same people began, inadvertantly, to start the process that has lead our people into near bondage.

And all with good intentions. The next time you hear someone say, "There ought to be a law!" Hit that person with a baseball bat!

Mike, The "Greatest Generation" was the only generation who actually knew what it meant to be a real Democrat. Back then, A real Democrat's only concern with government was that it should not cast its arrogance or push its weight onto the populace. Back then, real democrats asked for NOTHING from the government, but demanded that the government not abandon the people in need. No self respecting Democrat ever went looking for handouts, food stamps, etc. But they also knew that no american should ever have to suffer the transgressions of England, Europe, Asia and so on... Real Democrats worked their asses to the bone in our factories, and businesses. They were the true blue-collar force and the salt of the earth in this nation.

My grandma was a true Democrat and she was hell-fire and spit-cat on anybody who did not pull their weight. Back then, it was easy to represent your country, because people were either friend or they were foe. There was no blurry line to decipher (like you see today).

As much as I love the 60's, I staunchly believe that the social revolution of that era is the root cause of our problems today. For better or worse, It had summarily invoked a full abandonment and complete breakdown of pretty much every value that the white man's "establishment" had built up.

Add to that, to war of the sexes (A significant socio-political device used to divide the country by gender) and now the class warfare (dwindling middle class)

60's: The great and awesome social revolution and helluva party
70's: The early morning hangover.
80's: Lunch was looking better.
90's: Going to bed early tonight .
2010+: Holy cow, we've lost possession of our country

It wasn't America/ Was it a country that had a Socialist Health care system? Did this "FRee country" ban you from saying what you felt in your heart about the politics of that nation? Those two questions alone have narrowed it down to just one free country, but as you see we're losing one of those questions due to Obamanantion. :x

The 'free country' I was referring to was called Rhodesia. I read about their struggle to keep "the enemy from coming in..." (from 'We're all Rhodesians by a local folksinger). I went over there and signed up. I served until we were overwhelmed - primariy but other 'free' countries.

Most people, including me until I saw with my own eyes, believed all that cold war buillshit.

However, the US, UK, USSR and Red China worked closely together to destroy Rhodesia.

Freedom? You sadly have probably never tasted it as I did. Say what I want? Not a problem. Carry a gun? (as the clerk told me, 'no submachine guns for you my friend - you live in city limits!' Want to smoke weed - 'sorry mate - need a permit for that.' It was almost impossible to get locked up there - you had to actually hurt someone. Then it was very unpleasant for the miscreant.

I was in a car full of roughnecks, all armed, when we got pulled over for driving on the wrong side of the street. The unarmed cop tore a strip off us and told us, "get yourselves sorted out, drive on the right (left) side of the street and go get happily plastered! Now move!" In the USA of today we'd have been jailed for years. And to what end?

My last posting was with the Rhodesian African Rifles. Those black soldiers were a trip to work with. I introduced them to Southern Rock which was an immediate hit. Talk about professional soldiers. They knew what would happen if the commies took over. Sadly, It did happen.

While it lasted it was a delightful taste of how life is meant to be lived.

cheers
