Ouch, the G string on that 12 string electric is so flat, and it sounds like the viola player's intonation is out too. It was worth waiting for Billy Cobham to do a solo at the end though.

I went to see John McLaughlin at a dive jazz bar on the lower west side of Manhatten with my son (a real musician) in '08. They were fantastically talented but, as a vocalist, I was bored after about 20 minutes.

I realize that probably offends the sensitivities of many musicians here, but to me the human voice is what makes a song memorable. One of the guys I play with (Jose Rossy) was in Weather Report and, imo, they were the best instrumental group of all time because they pioneered the fusion sound.

In the mid 70s I saw Dixie Dregs open for Stanley Clarke (I think Jan Hammer was playing with him then?) and THAT was a show that held my short attention span. Otherwise only a few Jeff Beck fusion albums interest me.

You may now insult my pop-culture roots LOL

I hear ya yod, and totally realize that style is not for everyone. But you really can't call them "songs" unless they're sung lol. To me this is just pure music. But I listen to all kinds, from Brubeck to Blue Oyster Cult to Bach.
