Does anybody have any idea how Google works?

For you web-savvy people on here, does anybody have any idea how Google works? I have this crazy website called Levitynews.com which I launched January 1 this year. I check the analytics on it quite often to see how people are getting to the website. A while back somebody got to Levitynews.com by googling the word "the." I'm not kidding. Now I would imagine that nearly every website on planet Earth contains the word "the" in it somewhere. I also imagine that the vast majority of websites have been logged into by visitors quite a bit more than Levitynews.com.. So how on Earth does my brand new tiny little website get to an organic list by googling the word "the?" The web-hosting company experts are baffled. I'm baffled. For that mattter who would even think of googling the word "the?" If there's a secret method to this then maybe we could use it on our musical websites. Maybe I need to write a song called "The" or rename the band "The." Perhaps launch a website that only contains the word "the."

Whenever I think of a great band name it's already taken!

Bob, At the end of the day, Google's Organic formula actually operates on the tenure of your site. Your site is relatively new...All the money you spend to optimize the search wont help much at all ...Not this early in the game..

While meta tags are a thing of the past, they are sometimes helpful, once your site locks into a cluster of known searches...Otherwise they are useless as well... One trick to get locked in is to find other relevant sites and do a mutual exchange of external links, so as to pointing to each other's sites. from each other's site. This seems to boost the 'activity' related criteria within Google's crawlers. Activity is itself another factor.. Since lots of guys buy up domain names in batches and then sit on them to bid out later, (I think Google checks that too-- (Read up up on ICANN about new rules) )

I was told once that Google actually checks to see the duration of your Domain registration and Hosting... For example, if you registered it for 5 years, Google's organic search system takes that into account. It Implies that they reward serious domain registrants.

Beyond all that I'd say you just gotta ride out the time... I definitely would not spend a lot of money on optimization, until you have at least met all the basics in your pages/site etc via development, etc

. Yeah, I've been told all that. I understand optimization is oftentimes a big waste of money. I've got a goldmine of metatags and keywords, but I can't figure out how to mine it. I'm not one for conspiracies but there has to be some kind of connection between Google and those websites that are paying megabucks to optimize their websites. I have to have plenty of patience as I'm NOT particularly rolling in $ right now. I definitely need to find websites similar to mine and link up.

Every band name I have used in the last 40 years is being used.
Last time I checked "RED HANDED" was being used by 3 bands and one of them had a small record deal. "Barking Men" was squofffed up by a guitarist who was invited to play one gig with us.
FUNNY.
