Let the fireworks begin...

...We can all be patriotic and pretend it's the 4th of July already.

I'm just posting this because I'm sleep deprived and in need of a beer, but I figured I'd go ahead and poke the bear(s) a little.

Do you guys know what I am doing while YOU are spending hours on here debating politics, religion, the apocalypse, etc.?

Writing. Practicing. Preparing. Brainstorming.

This site always did have a socio-political riot going on in at least one thread. Now it seems like 2 out of every three threads has to be about something non-musical. Granted, they ARE important topics. It just seems a little desperate on your parts to feel such a need to display your opinions on these subjects-on a MUSIC site. Really? You can't find ANYWHERE else on the internet to voice your political opinions or religious views? I'm sure you only need to look a bit harder.

I'm not criticizing or condemning anybody here. I'm thanking you. While you waste your lives precious moments debating issues (most of which, as individuals, you can do nothing about-which just makes y'all look silly), I'm refining my craft-and I'm getting better...than you.

Hell, there's a few folks on here that I seriously doubt they've ever even touched an instrument. I won't mention any names, but I think it's clear that their purpose here is to promote their own personal agendas-which having nothing to do with music.

Feel free to fire away. That's the whole point. While you're straining your brains to come up with your next atomic-size filibuster designed to refute and berate me, I'LL be writing a song about how pointlessly you waste your time...and when it's a big hit, , I'm not going to give you any royalties!! Buwhahaha!!

All is required for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing ...

Not all of us are just talk.

God bless and good writing 8)

I cant flame a guy, whom I have too much respect for :)

You may actually be right about that wasting time thing...But some folks here, I value enough that I would like to hear their general thoughts and engage in a conversation about the theory of everything. If it were always strictly about the music, it would get too much like a 'job' to get on the forum

I do think its useful for us all to keep posting new things, no matter if its a cigarbox sonata or a 'left for dead' theme ...

My own writing and creative habits are very flexible..(for what they are actually worth) . Even as I write this post, I rest in the knowledge that I have four new songs lined up for a recording, two of which just fell in my lap last week... I do the foot work, etc.. Did you know that a song is like a burrito... Best served after its cooled down some...

Some of you guys get it,
some of you don't.

I guess the funniest thing is that the best musicians up here get it.

along the lines of what paperdog wrote;

It's nice to imagine that if we only spoke of music that posts would always be positive, somehow that doesn't seem likely.
I mean, we are who were are.

if the general population of the forum, engaging in all our angst and rhetoric, and the subject was always music, I think many of the the posts would be much more difficult to laugh off.

I'm in front of a computer for at least 40 hours a week so I'm able to visit here and fb whenever I want, but it's mostly to promote my music. At night I tend to avoid the computer since I'm rehearsing, practicing or gigging then. I don't see anything wrong in talking about subjects other than music; most music threads are pretty boring frankly.

Interestingly enough, most of the people that have responded to this were not really in the target range. There are people here who are far more extreme about it than any of the folks who've replied so far.

BUT, to try and respond (in no particular order)...

Jimmy and Scott, I agree for the most part, and i've never said there was anything wrong with non-musical posts. I'm only questioning the dedication of any musician that uses the free time it takes to post thousands of posts-a situation made worse by the fact that most of those posts are non-musical. IF I had that kind of time, I would be working on music. Not a judgement, just a statement.
Jimmy, of course the music threads are boring for you...you've been here for quite a while and it's rare to see a new theme pop up. That's exactly how I feel about the political posts...I couldn't care less about them, and right now they make up a huge chunk of the forum...YAY. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a music forum to be PREDOMINANTLY about music. Don't worry, I'm a fair person: When I go to a porn site, I'm not interested in the music there...

JCP61, interesting take...so discussing things other than music makes harsh discussions about music less abrasive? Basically, you're saying that shooting off at the mouth about other subjects keeps the musical discussions friendly? Hmm. Maybe. Then again, I've never really seen any proof of that.

Glen, apparently I don't get it, and I don't know what "getting it" has to do with being one of the best musicians. You'll have to clear that up for me.

PD, thanks for the respect, although I have to say that your statement makes me feel like it's more important to be seen on than forum than to have anything to say:

If it were always strictly about the music, it would get too much like a 'job' to get on the forum

...Meaning we would have to work at it to have something to add? Maybe I've missed the point. Anyway, I'll repeat my earlier sentiment that I don't have an issue with non-musical posts, but then again, I don't go to funerals expecting to see circus clowns. Seeing one once in a while might be a nice change. Having ten clowns at every funeral would seem innapropriate...anybody else digging the funeral clowns metaphor? No, just me?

GtZip, Sorry dude, that was all sober...

Sans, you probably made my point better than anyone. I never said to do nothing. I never said ignore your principles. I certainly never said that you were all talk-I know better. But what possible good comes from posting frustrations about a person, place or situation in a place where no one that can do anything about it is ever gonna see it? Good men should do something. Keep evil from flourishing. BUT, you can't weed out your garden by peeing in the city park. It doesn't work that way. That's the point.
Don't like Obama? He's probably not going to see the criticism posted here.
Upset about illegal immigrants? I doubt any of them are carrying computers on their backs as they run for the border. They are not getting the message.
Gas prices piss you off? I think I saw that the Exxon tiger recently changed his avatar, and it's really apologetic now...no, no, I'm wrong. Nobody from Exxon on this site. Ya know why? Cuz it's not a Big Oil forum.
It's a music site.

I've had a lot of fun with this (and actually did write a song about it), but come on, somebody tell me that they get the point...please! Like I said, I don't mind talking about something different every now and then (and I'm not trying to control the forum, either). You guys just overdo it. Some of you have been around long enough to remember when Craig Maxim was flooding the board with every single news flash he could get his hands on...music was basically non-existent here. We are getting close to that point again.

...And for the record, I just looked down the list and there is a BUNCH of music-oriented threads. Must be a good day.

Nope... I was trying to express that signing on might become arduous... if all it ever was about was music..(we might as well just bookmark a google link and add that to our collection of 'Learning, Development and Improvement' links... ) I like to think of BM as the online bar where we talk about everything,,, (And if we yell an scream, its not like a real saloon brawl.. Nobody gets bloodied up, injured and hurt :)  8)

alright I'm game,
start a discussion about the importance of music theory, or better yet,
are you really a musician if you; (insert topic of choice here)?
I'll be happy to join right in.
:)

I'm always glad to see the musical oriented threads on an increase cycle.
And as long time members know it does cycle.

I also think it's good to have a "closet" or at least some people with a common interest to vent to.

Though I / we can take it to extremes.

Muso's must be passionate people.

Without emotional content all you have is noise.
