Hey Gang,

If you can take a few minutes (neither one of these things are long) I would love to hear your feedback on a couple of original compositions I am working on. The following URLs are streaming, so you don't have to wait for a download (yippeeeee!).

http://www.irminsul.biz/audio/fant01pnovln.wma
This one is a Fantasie for Piano and Violin. The violin is digitized (so forgive the artificial sound in places) because this is still in edit and not finalized for live recording yet.

http://www.irminsul.biz/audio/rhapsodyno1op13.wma
This one is a solo piano composition called Rhapsody No.1 (opus 13). Again, not in final edit.

Thanks in advance for taking the time.....

Glad you enjoyed it, V&B - now if I can find a violinist with a real masochistic streak, I can get this recorded LOL.

To show that I always give respect where it's due - I'm impressed by both your compositions and you're playing. I'm sure these pieces will sound even better when recorded live. Are you playing the piano or is it a digital thing as well (placing the notes on computer and having them played back)?

Thanks Seth. The piano on Rhapsody No1 is realtime - but the one on the violin piano duet is midied - I'm still learning it. I write a hell of a lot faster than I can learn the things :(.

just hought's on your music

Irminsul Me being a drummer and not in to classicle I found Fantasie to be a bit rich and went no where ... although the song has some vitallity, it seemed to be a bit dark and if it is to be dark make it so ...most of my stuff I try to have a beginning middle and end to this piece however did not... unless that is what you were going for ... for which i appologize ...(not trying to be a critic just trying to help!!...) any way , there are parts that you could use that are fantastic to to build upon in time line 1:46 I found to be of use and there are others I did not write down that whole new work could spring out from keep up the great work!!!!
As for Rapsody .... very nice " Beginning middle and end " ... Timing impeckable ... dynamics Wonderfull ... style very good !!! .. keep it up!!!... Bob...

Thanks for the feedback, Pocketdrummer. Yes, to be sure "Fantasie" is a style that is not everyone's cup of tea. It's pretty impressionistic which means I discarded any notions of defined breaks, choruses etc. Just sort of molded the expressions as they came.

Rhapsody is written on a much more familiar format - largely after some Slavic dances - and is more tightly thematic.

I love hearing the divergence of opinion on stuff like this, it's really cool to see what trips someone's trigger....and what doesnt.

Irminsul, The style of music that you create, Is a true "Art of Music" In my personal opinion". It is a style of music that resides in all of our hearts & souls. The beauty of music is your gift. Painting a portrait. Beauty is in the eyes [ears] of the beholder. I myself, Just love the Cello. Maybe because Im a bass player. In my opinion, You have a gift more than anyone Ive ever met. Simply because of, your style is Art, In so many different ways with Classic Music, Painting a Portrait, complexity, Emotional Satisfaction, Musicals, etc. [One of the oldist syles of music in the history of music, And our heritage.] You know alot more about Classic than I do. When you have the time, Would you give me some basic info about Classic? I would give up all other styles if I had your knowledge at this style of Art. I almost know for a fact that there is no reason you could not make a comfortable living with your God given Gift. And I wish you the Best, With your originals. VB

Hello everyone.

Just wanted to say that I rather prefer the 1st to the 2nd. I am a very visual person. I could see the violinist performing and it really got me into the music. Mid length hair flopping around. Really enjoyed listening to it.

The second one, I am not fond of the beginning part. Made me think of a saloon. Something I would hear in a old western. Maybe it just wasn't what I expected. As the music progressed, I felt as though I was in a concert hall and very much alive.

My technical knowledge is not comparable to some other people on here, so I hope my input helps.

I look to music of all sorts to evoke some type of emotion or feeling when I listen to it. These two compositions definitely did that for me. :)

You are incredibly talented as V&B said.

I can see, I hope you take this as a compliment, the 2nd one definitely as a Disney score for one of their animations.
So I certainly agree with LR.

Thanks for sharing your gift.

Wow VB, with a send up like that, how could I lose? Awfully kind words and I'd be happy to help you with any questions about classical or neo-classical (seems like an oxymoron doesnt it) music that I may know about. Everything I do know has been dug up when I needed to know it, as I went through my various phases. I'm no expert but I picked up a few things.

On the cello - wow, I truly love that instrument too. In fact I have more stored or in progress pieces for cello than for any other instrument. They say it is the instrument that most closely resembles the tenor human voice. I have yet to hear an instrument that does not go with the cello - or a cello solo piece that doesnt sound beautiful.

Thanks for your thoughts, Jaquerae. You know you really have me wondering now...maybe I'll throw some flange on Rhapsody No1 and see if I can REALLY go for that western honky tonk sound LOL.

Could be fun.....

Listening to it now... first impressions: would work nicely in a Tim Burton film. Very professional sounding. I'm officially nicknaming you dissonance. Very nicely done... violin is a sample but I its a very nice sample of a violin (what module are you using there, doesn't sound like a sampler but a korg? if you don't mind me asking?) The piano sounds great. I'd be very interested to know what your using there too. So that is you performing that piano part? wo thats some complicated and difficult stuff there. Its a 10 as far as professionalism, the violin part does get a little bit gainy here and there(is that a word). I don't usually care for extremely dissonant pieces, but there is no doubt about this being of commercial quality. I could def see it in a film, on a commercial, or on contemporary classical radio.
