Songwriting workshops

I attended a 3-hour one 2 years ago, it was a lot of fun, if not totally productive, as I found I was the most-experienced player in the group of about 15 people (other than the 'teacher', Robin Lane).
Internet searching doesn't find much in the way of these things, other than in the Nashville area. I have heard of songwriting weekends and circles.
Thought this might be a good place to list these when anyone hears about them.
Any in the New England area, I'd be interested in knowing about them!

I think YOD referred to it as "Gnashville".

That's the best approximation I've heard thus far. lol

IF you can find at least one other song-writer in your area, you have the makings of a band..and all the song writing lessons and workshops you will ever need. I say this cause most song-writing really cant come from public groups and circles...(anymore than love and romance can actually come out of speed-dating at Fudd-Ruckers...LOL) But Two writers can really take a musical idea to the next level, easily...from the garage, so to speak.

IMHO

I'm not interested in paying thousands of $$ to learn how to 'write a hit song'.
If you haven't participated in a workshop, or seen/heard the results of one, you dont' understand. It's not about writing songs together, its about the process of songwriting. In a workshop you get to hear a bunch of others (who are hopefully at the same level), how they write, work with some, and learn techniques.
Sure it can be great to find the 'Lennon' to your 'McCartney', but a workshop is much more than that.

You are probably right.. I don't understand. I guess it would be nice to have the Lennon to my McCartney (And they were looking for the 'Rogers' to their 'Hammerstein') .

Actually I have been to one (1) workshop . I found it to be fruitless.. Not knocking them, but most were there just because its something to do, and somebody had told them they had talents that they should develop. For me, where I was approaching it from, it just seemed pointless. Again not knocking them... For those guys I'm sure it was a great experience..

As fer me... I engage in the song-writing process (with or without a partner...) But i do believe that having a partner really can breathe life into it all, if both parties can get on the same page. To me it IS about writing 'together'... That in and of itself is a technique and a process...I might add its quite an elevated one ( I have had the luxury of partners in the past)
