I have this friend in Iowa I went to High School with and he has sent my twin brother many of his lyrics, my brother forwards them on to me, and I have forwarded some to Lynard, (who I consider a friend you just got to understand him)..would it be stupid to post some of this old friend's lyrics here, or would it be a dumb idea since then it would be open season for anybody to rip them off if they have a mind to?... I am amazed at how good some of this guy's lyrics are or at least I think some of them are good enough to work with in developing a song..

I'd get his permission first. Why put yourself in said danger that could cause friction with your friendship?

Yes, as long as the lyrics have copyrights and you have permission.

It would be stupid if you do that without the friend's permission.

If you're looking for an English lesson on the lyrics... prolly a waste of time here.

Its prolly better to Put the lyrics to music and post that. You'll get more bang for the buck in terms of free professional opinion about the work.

I post lyrics here once in a while. I dont care. I can write lyrics at will.
It all becomes an exercise for me. I would write lyrics for anyone
