Most have studied individual artists throughout their learning process as a growing musician. Regardless of genre or style within that genre that you consider yourself to be when you play "You". Which players influenced you the most? And how many styles did you really, and I mean seriously study?

Now this doesn`t necessarily mean who`s your favorite guitarist because one of mine is Derek Trucks but I have not studied his Technic much at all. So with that said or typed?.....

Woodstock,,,, you got NO music posted. I don't know how JC jumped to you being over rated'
Don't matter.
Any guitarist is a great guitarist. JUST FROM TRYING TO PLAY THE DAMN THING.

You can't compare the three you have in your poll.

Hey if you want to make some friends,,, just post some music.

(some of the players up here will make you smile if you take the time to listen to them)

I saw Derick Trucks and his band up in Snoquamie Falls <SP> Casino up Seattle way a few years back. He handles slide like he's working a butter knife on cream-cheese cake... The dude is Fn awsome! Re: Playing style... I believe he's a protege of the Allman Bros family, and got his foundation with them... So if you know Allman Brothers, you got Derick Trucks in the deal too ;)

I`ve only posted two thread topics and it never fails to have a troll attack. I won`t even reply on that comment due to pity.

Derek Trucks is an amazing player. He recorded his first studio album at 16. Check out the song "555 Lake" Remember this kid is 16 at the time he played this song. He clicked along good until lately. All of this stuff with his wife is not really my bag. She has fans but I`m not one of them. Derek rocks that jazzy funky stuff ya know. To hear him playing folk and calling it blues sux. He was really into Duane Allman. He actually went in a different direction from the Allman Bros. until he aged a bit. Now I`m sure he was majorly influenced by them since his uncle is the drummer but he leaned toward the jazz.

Surprised at the few amount of comments and votes but it`s alright. I have chased down several people from here only to meet a dead end. I did get contacted by a Production company from New Orleans though, which I hope ends up being worth all the time spent searching. I`ve really placed my attention with reverbnation now but I keep an eye out here occasionally. There`s just too many accounts within Bandmix in my area who shoot the lines of BS, sign up for free and don`t follow up.

I have my hopes to be touring by the fall with a group of New Orleans bands such as Papa Grows Funk and The Meters. Now I don`t mean those exact bands but bands along the same lines. If the oppurtunity arises with one of those better bands I will jump right on the wagon. Thanks for the replies.

Danny Gatton was a true master, he was always getting into Guitar Player magazine articles.. what I remember about him most was his banjo rolls on a tele. but his chicen pickin' skills were every bit as good... Albert Lee mightt have the upperhand..think Highway 40 Blues by Ricky Skaggs

I saw Derek Trucks (and band) a couple of years ago - opening for Santana. How's that for keeping a guitarist's head out of the clouds?! Trucks plays a good down-south blues slide style, like Dog said, smooth as butter. Kind of boring style, overall, at a big arena show.

my answer was rhetorical,
i didn't mean you per se,
never heard you play.

I mean the question really doesn't mean any thing
if people buy a ticket then he must have something they want.
good for them i say.
if you can sell a ticket then good on you, if you can't, guess you don't have something they want.

I am astonished that Derek Trucks style has been called "boring".... I not only think that his style is the most difficult to cover, I also think that he will, in fact, reach a Legend status within my Lifetime, if not already. To get an idea of his "style" one must venture back to his early days when he began gigging, I think he was about 12 years old. He had a full band of adults which seemed kinda weird to view. Later, as stated, he recorded his first album at age 16. Since then he has played guitar with and for some of the worlds greatest musicians such as The Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton, etc. also including studies in far eastern music. His use of scales are not done by anyone whom I have ever heard. Now this may not mean much due to the unknown factor of me personally but I have a collection of over 20,000 songs currently and these are simply what I listen to on a daily basis currently. I swap, trade, etc. Stating I am a HUGE fan of most all musical genres and the styles within is an epic understatement. I also consider no music "old". Basically, I have listened to alot of music including local acts in 7 states within the past year and a half. I have never heard anyone who sounded anything like Derek. I have heard some making attempts but the attempts were futile. I understand that the music he performs now is boring. I really hate that he seems to have strayed from his awesome style of Jazzy Funk and leaned toward his wife`s performances. This may be what you heard, dunno. Just seemed like an uneducated comment when speaking of this guy. Not offensive use of the word. What I mean is maybe you should dabble a bit more in his recordings. Boring, to me, is todays so called rock or alternative music. Other than Shinedown, and a few others such as Foo Fighters , modern rock kinda sucks. This is why I have began listening to more Country music lately. Just plain better music, lyrics and artists with the exception of Taylor Swift....LOLOL. I am currently studying jazz so I listen to alot of it also. The most fun is finding new artists that I`ve never heard. It`s a rarity at my age.
My feathers very rarely "ruffle" and practically never from a forum thread nor blog. I just convey my opinion and read others and reply. I always keep an open mind in hopes of learning and share my life long knowledge of information in hopes of educating others. Thanks again....Oh, and, "Keep The Funk Alive!"

The "Post some music" comment.... I tried but I had to remove them due to being contacted by a rep. from some 2 bit production company. See, I played on a live show with "a guy" and even though I didn`t include his name, apparently when the song is downloaded by others, it shows his name. Therefore I had to remove it because of some copyright thing. The funny thing is that I downloaded the song from his live album from Zune and I haven`t seen any royalties...LOL. I emailed this guy the same statement...guess what...haven`t heard back, but better safe than sorry ya know. I may get my looping station out and just jam on it a while and see what I can come up with. Anyway,...I do enjoy some of these comments and the exchange. I`d love to make more friends across the country. The more connections, the better. Happy jamming.

When I hear over rated I think some body who gets the hype and doesn't deserve it. Most of the greats have earned their spots .None that you mention I would consider over rated. There are many under rated Guitarist tho. Way too many to count.

Derek Trucks and his beautifull wife won a grammy for best blues album last year.. And his work with the Alman Bros is top shelf.

I bow to Hendrix , The Vanzants , Eric Clapton. Steve Norse, Jimmy Danger ,and hundreds more. Including the ones you polled...

The ones I find the most under rated are the ones I play with...

But thats just my 2 cents...
