I have been Impressed with the tenacity of Mike and Dave. We have had a few good jams. They have been all over BAND MIX. They have contacted every bass player in a reasonable radius.
It seems that everyone that they have contacted is holding out for a million dollar contract, or a working band making at least $800 a gig.

Ok. You want to play,,,, lets play. Cleanly divided between four players thats two hundred a man. Thats cool if you are living with mom, but in the real world that won't pay for a dime pay toilet.

I am just amazed that so many musicians think they are so good. I see Dog ,and JW and PHILBY, The FARLEYS, and Haley, Sans, musichead, and so many more ,,,, playing because they love playing. SORRY FOR MISSING ANY OF YOU !!!

Any way, I realized the most important thing I can teach anyone about music is to just LOVE PLAYING.

I must be getting old.

I have played with musicians in the past that play MOSTLY for money. They are ALWAYS difficult to get along with! Don't get me wrong I am a carpenter and I play music to suppliment my income so I want to be paid and paid WELL! When it gets right down to it I REALLY just want to play! I feel that if I had invested the time and money that I have invested in music into ANY OTHER PROFESSION I'd probably be worth millions! LMAO having said that I WOULDN'T CHANGE ONE THING!

I'm not out here to pick a fight, but what business is it of anyones to judge the standards that an individual has set for themselves in a free market system?

Some have great aspirations of making a name for themselves, some like to play just to entertain themselves and others, and some want to make a lot of money for going through all the hassles that come up when they join a group, others are simply on an ego trip. Isn't it the individuals prerogative to set his own goals without condemnation from other musicians just because they don't do what someone else expects of them?

Good point, but he made that because he makes music for the love of making music, and reached a point where his work has great value.

I play because I can't figure out how to stop if I wanted to. After paying lots of dues, I don't like playing for people who take advantage of the situation to avoid giving me anything.

I played last night and was paid handsomely (especially for a Monday night) but I didn't know what I'd make until I got it. I have taking that risk for many years, even decades, and now that it's finally paying off I would resent anyone accusing me of doing it for the money. Mondays aren't always great paying but I do every date with the same zeal and worry about the money when it's over.

That is a concern but not the main one.

We split $580 this weekend between the 4 of us, so it wasnt too bad, we have an agreement to make $600 per night, but i let two couples in for free cause they drove so far and one of them had a birthday, so it came out of my share.

Had this offer for an out of town gig where my wife is from, he have a house there and a boat, I thought it would be cool to get a gig and bring the guys up so we could have some fun in the boat the next day, kind of a vacation. Anyway its this Moose Lodge which Im a member of, and actually helped when they started it a few years ago. So I asked the main guy what they pay, he says we can give you $350, I said look my guys make $150 a piece, so we can do it for $450, I will play it for free so I can bet them up here, No go he said! Im glad I didnt donate those extra speakers I had too the place when we started it.

Funny thing, we were up there a couple of weeks ago and went in to check out the band, it was these young guys, and they kept stopping in the middle of songs, for whatever reason, so I guess you get what you pay for.

JW this just proves what I have always suspected... Club/Venue owners try to be billy-Bad ass bizness people and they wind up shooting them selves in the foot...whilst Bands get subjected to 'negotiations" with guys like that... (No wonder its an Epic fail on the pay scale for so many bands and opportunity loss of biz for the venues...

I hope you arent paying a membership fee for a club that couldn't even cut you a break, to help 'them' elevate their image for one night... As for them, I guess its back to a quiet evening of staring at the moose head on the lounge fireplace , and wondering if that poor animal knew what really hit him.... There is a parallell in there, you know...

Just ranting. Mike and Dave are trying hard to put something together. They are just running into a bunch of posers and wankers. By the way, yes, in a free market system, as my business, it is my prerogative to judge the standards of any one that is going to work with me. You are a great guitar player. BUT JUST LIKE ME, you would not make a good bass player. I wouldn't want you. or me for that matter.

Any way they have a new plan to go do a few songs at open jams. Last time I did it , was fun. A few ripping solos, a few ripping vocals,,,, Thats how I can bring some players out.

I played in Bellmore last night, bro. Going home until the 10th but coming right back and probably going to play in Holbrook and Yaphank in about a week. Nothing actually booked yet...but since that is close to Smithtown, I'm thinking it would be fun to go hit a few of those jams with ya. We should meet somewhere on the 11th or 12th and throw down a few at a jam.

I'm the type of person that my favorite part of being in a band was not playing shows playing shows of a plus but I was all about band practice band practice was the funnest time for me I write music because I like people to hear the sounds that. are going on inside my head and tell me there thoughts on it

Drove in from Utica the night before and didn't realize I was headed to Bellmore until the day came...and didn't realize it was close to you until I checked a map last night. I could be back out there by next Wednesday and Thursday if there is a reason for it. So what goes on out on Long Island next week?
