"Kids" today!

No manners, no common sense, no real people skills. Raised by television and video games.

I responded by email to someone's profile here on Bandmix who was looking for a couple of people to fill gaps in his backup band. I explained who I was, had a few questions as it was not clear what his aspirations were. A simple reply like 'I'll let you know' or 'thanks, but no thanks' would be fine, but a week goes by and not a word. His profile is now 2 weeks since last update, but you would think he'd check the email address every once in a while ...

You might want to try your local Craigs List, that is pretty active in my area, or just talk to some tech guys in music stores, they ussually know who is really playing. Or just go see some groups playing in your area, make up a little business card so they have your number, I did that for awhile, sat in with some groups and got some referrals for pickup gigs that way.

Ive been on bandmix for 4-5 years and have only played with one person I met thru here, Ive gone to a couple of peoples shows that were in my area and had a couple of guys who were coming thru my area stop by my house and we jammed a bit, but as far as getting into a band, I didnt have any luck on this site.

Another option might be facebook, most working bands have some sort of site, just throw some of them in your area a line.

Good Luck, the older we get it gets very frustrating to find people to play with, I got lucky and my old band wanted to get back together a few years ago.

Just hang in there and good luck!

I find contact return ratio for Bandmix to be approximately 20:1

I don't think it has anything to do with "kids" or "these days" as I firmly believe mankind has not changed a bit since our fall from grace.
There are more of us, the technology we use has changed, we are getting weaker and dumber as we drift farther and farther from the original genetic order. But we are the same flawed creatures.

All I can say is we must be persistent.
I have been experiencing the same lack of commitment in my search to replace our lead vocalist.

So be it.

As a matter of discussion I did receive a return contact from lady whom I had been in contact with.
She very courteously declined stating her commitment to her own organization.

So it ain't all bad ...

It's not just kids, it's people. There is a general absence of civility these days. Put out 20 emails and if one like minded musician responds, consider yourself lucky. Over time I have created a circle of local musicians I can trust and I regularly sit in/jam or generally keep in touch with them. If we lose a player, we have options.

I do keep my eyes on CL, here - 30 miles north of Boston - doesn't see a lot of action, and more times than not it's 20-somethings looking to do heavy metal - or people with no gigging or band experience and a year or two of playing (or singing karaoke!)
I'm not interested in 'sitting in' with bands for an occasional gig for money, but something more steady.
In the meantime, as I posted in another thread, I did get in touch with someone through this place and we had our 3rd practice last night, similar age, influences and desire to stay 'mostly acoustic', while at the same time bring some real rock & roll to audiences.

Finding the right band requires the patience of a SAINT! If you are patient you WILL find someone you can work with.

craigs list nets you white trash - in my limited experience.
No thank you.

The pain is felt I have been trying to. form a band for 2 years now and I've been running into guitar players with no amps drug addict drummers the only guy could rely on with my bass player from my old band in Kansas and if I did get a nose pieces together it seems like everybody wants to play but no 1 wants to practice and I refuse to sound like sh*t on stage lately I've just been trying to get a vocalist but I get more rappers that want to collaborate with me then I get metal vocalists maybe I should just try and play guitar for a lil wayne

I found this to be the case on sites like Craigs list... etc... When you think about it, soliciting musical unions is actually no different than trying to find a mate in Match.com . You gotta wade through a lot of undesirables to find that one desirable... Its just seems to be the nature of the beast in music.

...just keep trying. One person not responding doesn't mean somebody else won't respond.

In my first shot at it I found I was getting nowhere fast so I headed to Atlanta, then subsequently LA. NY or Nashville would do, maybe a couple others, so far as an avenue toward putting something together.

When I got to LA I won't lie, there were lots of squirrels, but a higher class of squirrels and plenty of switched on people too. 8)

When I played with an outfit called Forced Entry we had to stop auditioning drummers and went to prelim interviews to save time. A right lot of bozos we ran into: one asked us what the band profile was on use of weed! Another asked if we'd mind spotting him a set a drums...etc

But in a major music area you can find musicians. I ended up with a guitar player named Shag Stevens for a roomate - he saw me crossing the street with my bass in a case and called it right. You won't find that in lesser markets.

You've got some chops and you're young - run with it. But keep a backup plan because you're always only one chick (and / or kid) away from semi-pro to hobbyist.

Wow, did you ever hit that one on the nose....

I am looking for a bassist to invest in so I put up a very short ad on CL.

And the bums came out of the woodwork. lol

It was so bad, it took 1 night of laughing, drinking and burping to get through the ads.

The very worst was this one asshole I solicited in the very beginning of all this. I asked him to play a little with me informally. (I can tell when someone is going to fit the bill by playing with them for 10 minutes)

This guy not only told me "no", he further stated that all of my music was due to the influence of certain illegal materials.

At the time I laughed about it and dismissed him, but when he resurfaced and was pleading for a tryout, I couldn't help but remind him he had a chance way back when. Furthermore if he was willing to casually state the utter tripe he did at the time, there is no point in trying him out now because at the first sign of discourse he would be out like the dog who sh*t the bed.

PEOPLE always give someone the benefit of the doubt, else you might be throwing away your next chance to perform with people you might actually like.

WTF is your deal kid?

Is it the area? Why can't you find a situation to get in?

You trying to start your own>?

You are young, play with like 3 bands and select the one you like TO TAKE OVER.

As the other guy said, you got some chops etc. You should be at least making noise with a few others..this idea that there is no one for you to play with is hard to believe...

I don't dig your genre but the music isn't horrible, like in a few other cases.

I don't know anyone in your area, lest I'd send you a few to your doorstep. No one playing your type of "heavy" in your area?

How can that be?

I posted in another thread, I did get in touch with someone
