What Bandmix Really Needs

One of hte reasons it is so difficult to locate musicians on Bandmix is that they do not have a place for someone to list their primary instrument. Everyone who creates a listing usually checks off every instrument that they play, so if you go looking for a vocalist, you get every musician that checks off vocals.

This would not be a major technical undertaking and would really make this site much more useful.

What is needed is people who use it better/correctly.

If somebody does vocals and plays guitar, it is good to know. Putting additional details in the "About" section also helps.

Same thing with "now seeking". Seems all too often you get individuals who indicate they're a band seeking x, y and z. Well, if you're one person, you're not a band really.

At the end of the day you just search for what you can, look at activity date, then read what they've added.

I don't know what goes into an on-line station but how bout BM Radio for Premeire members... enter a song a month.

Hey ascension,
Use the activity option. Then you at least narrow your searching down to folks who are currently active. There are many many dormant folks on Band Mix. Sans taught me that one... best advice I've gotten here 8) .

By the way I play the flute, tuba, sax, guitar, drums, piano, xylophone, recorder, oboe, picollo, trombone, bass and the radio. But not at the same time

Credit where credit due ... thanks!

Indeed like any other tool it is most efficient when on learns how to best wield it.
Is it perfection ... no.
Does it work ... did for me.
Much like a hammer. It will not build your house for you.
Though that would be pretty cool.

On my site here I list what I REALLY do. I don't think it is so much bandmix. When I try to find musicians on here and they have all the instruments they have played 20 years ago I pass those adds up. If I can't tell what instrument you REALLY play I ain't going to guess. I used to play the violin and was very proficient at it 15 years ago. For me to put that on my list would be misleading and the folks that do that on here are probably misleading you too.

Agreed. I have this predisposed notion that if someone lists a million instruments, they may not have the focus i'm looking for. Like we're looking for a bass player but not a failed guitarist. Someone who understands what a bass player does for a band. I'm less likely to look at someone who "incidentally" plays bass among a ton of other things.
