Just had my ass handed to me by a prodigious 19 year-old blues player.
This kid was un-freaken-believable... Young African American man , been playing since he was 4 years old and he was doing Hendrix moves, and working the floor ..What a showman, what a professional entertainer! He made the house jump...

I say that I had my ass handed to me cause I had to follow that act... My name was up... I got up there with my acoustic and told the audience... "I felt like I just brought a knife to a gun fight..."

Well lo and behold, Since it was post Valentines-day, I decided to cover McCartney's new release (My Valentine). Amazingly, despite this bar being a bad-ass bar with a tough crowd...my rendition was well recieved....
Gawd I love these open mics! The guys here are true musicians, and they love what they do and they are so open arms about the music with newbies like me... Just plain awsome!

Will post video in the next day or two

Thats how it is here at open mike nights. People can be very receptive to the new guy. It all really depends on who is running the open mike. I have seen some that do it just for the money and are kind of angry they have to share the stage with "less worthy" musicians and they don't last very long. I'm just getting to old to go to open mike nights as I get up at 5:am every morning LOL!

Stick to the plan!

I am often amazed at the talent of these young whipper snappers ha ha.

There's the Bob Dylan Tribute show where Eric Clapton kinda gets handed his head by Neil Young, but that's Neil not me.

We did a big show at the fairgrounds Carnaval Carolinas Charlotte NC someone forgot to bring our cymbals for the promoters drumkit and the drummers all freaked out, to the point he refused to play with the crippled kit.
So after a frantic search the act that was following us was kind enough to lend us theirs. What a relief, cause I really thought that our drummer was going to walk off (he was fired right after the show). When the other guys cymbals were in place and we started up the stairs passing one of the members of the other band I told their leader we're not a tough act to follow, and I really believed that. We did pretty good drew the crowd to the stage, even an Encore.

Then the guy's that loaned us the cymbals took the stage sure glad we didn't have to follow them.
Those young guy's were jumping off the side fill speakers, playing with their teeth, behind their back, tapping like Van Halen, everything short of setting themselves on fire, as we watched them perform, the audience wandered off, headed for the concession stands.

Next time they'll stick to communicating and singing in Spanish maybe. LOL

If you want to make someone nervous tell them your not a tough act to follow. ha ha

Stick to your plan.
