Loopers

Does anyone know of portable loopers for performers?
.
I know boss makes a couple; looking for something more affordable . . .
I only need to be able to record up to 10- 20 seconds or so, and stack a total of 3 - 4 melodies.
.
Can I do this for $100, or maybe $150?

Many of the "delay" or "echo" pedals these days will do short loops.

Seems Danelectro is putting one out for around 100 clams.

I'll have to look at Musicians Friend again.

Been a while since I researched them.

Thanks.
I looked at a Boss echo pedal, but it only had a delay of 8/10 second.
.
I'll look up Danelectro

Rythym man PM Neaderpaul, hes the expert of loopers on this site.

My Line 6 Delay Modeler will make a loop of around 14 seconds, but Im not sure you can stack it the way you are talking about.

When I got back playing live I wanted to use a looper to play rythym and lead, but it didnt work out, cause our meter was so bad! LOL

Most loopers started in the $300 range that I looked at that would do what you want to do.

But check with Paul, he could give you some good advice on these.

Good Luck

Looks like I was mistaken ... my apology for the mislead.

S'ok, Sans, no biggee . . .
.
jw123, Yeah, I was asking about how it knows when the measure is supposed to end.
I heard tha one of them does it for you somehow, but I think I'd rather just get my foot tapping . . . I understand the trick is to shut it off just as you're starting the 1st beat of the next measure.
The guy at the music store told me several times that there's a real learning curve with loopers . . .
.
I saw 2 boss models - one for $200, and one for $300.
One has 1 pedal, the other had 2 . . .

Rythym, I never got the hang of it to be honest, and since I bought the looper I got from GC, I just took it back for something else.

Ive seen Paul live, and he actually picks up one instrument after another and doest start on the one beat like you would think.

I hope he sees this and responds, cause hes the only person Ive ever seen live use one in the manner you are talking about.

Paul where are you?

It seemed to me when I was watching Paul do his show that he would start and stop the recording of each loop with a motion of his foot.

With the technology changing as it does who knows what's out there now.

Yeah.
The trick is to hit it right on the money.
If you're 1/4 of a beat off, when it comes around again everything's all screwed up: at the end of every measure there'll be a hiccup.
I understand that it helps to get a good rhythm going with your foot - every beat - , and then hit the pedal on the beat.
But - don't be late!
Or early: folks who hit the beats early are notorious for speeding up songs.

I resemble that remark.
Though I have been doing some metronome work in hopes of smoothing out my rhythms some.

George for a while there I would practice with a drum machine instead of a metronome.

I havent lately, but having a timing device and working at whatever BPMs you guys play songs at will make you more comfortable when yiou break off into a lead.

Rythym man I love to push and pull on the beat with my band, just gives songs a different tension than playing square on the beat all the time. Plus it keeps everyone on thier toes!

You should look on youtube for some of Pauls looping videos and see for yourself what he does. I saw him live and it was amazing to watch him record little bits of different instruments and build up a song.

I think on this site he would be the best guy to give advice on loopers, pros and cons.

from what Ive seen the Boss rc- 20 or 30 seems to be a standard for a lot of loopers $300.bones at GC.

here is a demo and review of the 30

I've read some good and bad things about it. You're probably best to go to a GC and play with a few of them.
