My drummer quit the band this morning.

I wish I could say it was a surprise.

But he's doing the Right Thing, IMO: he's really overcommitted and it's time for him to get real.

But I'm in two bands, one of which (Hollywood's Attractions) is mostly together to be the band for the Do The Hustle show which is on a local cable channel (episodes are also on youtube: http://www.youtub.com/delaurianproductions). That band is a lot of fun, we do some very weird and wonderful stuff, but it's not my band.

Everyone in Hollywood's Attractions is another band.

Including the drummer. But she also wants to be in my band. So...

The news is not all bad because she wants to be in my band. So I was drummerless for about four hours.

Networking matters.

By overcommited I have to assume you mean overcommitment ... as in too much stuff going on to keep up with.

I don't believe a man could be overcommted ... as in too much commitment to a specific project.

Yes ... It can be easy to get too many things going at once.

Like taking an oversize plate to the buffet of life.

Best wishes with the switch.

as a drummer myself, i find that im usually the most committed and i leave because things have reached a stand still where no one else is looking to get out of the garage or basement or whatever, and get on stage and actually present the material we've written to others.

Right, I guess I wasn't clear: :)

Overcommitted = too many committments, at least in this case.

Perhaps not that you were unclear maybe just an assumption on my part at first read.

At any rate I hope that your new drummer is a blessing to your band.

Change can be difficult ...

Rehearsal with the new drummer tonight. This could be fun.

A singer who joins right in the jokes when we say "It's all about you, D.C." and a drummer whose nickname is Hollywood. Both of them are actually very nice - if a little flamboyant - people who also happen to be really good musicians.

I guess I'm going to have to get used to being in the background in this band.

:) :) :) :) :)

Rehearsal went really well. But the general agreement that we can and should get back to regular rehearsals made it that much better.

I'm so desperate for a drummer I've offered to buy a new drum set for the drummer to use at our practice space. In fact they can have the new drum set.

I wish more folks would take up drums instead of guitar. Too many guitar players.

I'm a drummer boy, but I only have buckets! :D
Quitting isn't good, being sacked even worse, but you didn't sack him, he left.

You'll find another, hope you do in any case.

Well we sort of sacked him, basically telling him that his timing was off on the recordings. He didn't like that and got offended.

My sh|t was off too, but I practice and correct it. That's the difference. Plus, I can't work with a guy who's eyes are literally 1/2 open all the time because of percs, booze and pot.

I mean I'm all about pot, but when I'm recording or playing out, I save all that till after I'm done. You know, same thing a professional would do.
