The younger guy who used to hang out here with us geezers? The guy who sings with the monster metal voice? He actually made a bunch of us pay attention to that genre and he enlightened me to the fact that there is a proper technique to growling that does NOT tear up your voice. I mean I like a lot of metal, but always turned my nose up at the cookie monster metal. Well boys Ryan has impressed me yet again. He can sing too. And so can his mom. His voice is RICH too!!

I have lots of neighbors that are Nasa employee's. I was talking to one yesterday and its hard times man! It makes me almost sick to think how Nasa is treating all of the talent they have accumulated over the years. Johnson Space Center is to this area what the big 3 are to Detroit! End Rant LOL

It's so cool that he has a killer singing voice. It gives his other music so much more credibility in my book.

He seems like he's pushing instead of letting it flow.

I have to agree with you. I know very little about the technicalities of singing, and I only know what I've learned by myself from practicing. My higher range is very limited, and that's why I sound like I'm STRAINing when I hit those higher notes. I've been trying to work on that, but it's hard to teach myself.

Or it may just sound strained and gritty because that's how the original singer (Roy Khan, my hero) sang it, and I was just emulating the original version.

Any singing tips would be highly appreciated :)

Seek out a vocal coach! They can teach you how to extend your range! They can teach you breathing exercises, teach you how to sing from your diaphram instead of just your throat. Some singers that are not trained have figured it out. They call it their 3 voices head, throat and gut. A vocal coach will show you things that you are going to think are the dumbest thing you have ever heard. Trust them and do the gay little exercises it'll really help you. Just be sure the person you trust is worthy of your trust!

I actually DO sing from my diaphram! That was something I learned as a kid when my mom was taking singing lessons. But to get that airy/gritty sound for this song, I had to use more of my throat. It gives it more of a dramatic effect, I guess
