Posers

There's a lot of talk about who is or is not or may or may not be a poser. Anyhow, I don't have any recordings on here because I don't have the means by which to do that and anything my previous band would have recorded is on cassette tape.

However, should there be any concern here that I am a total flake, I would be happy to E-Mail any who doubt that I can sing better-than-poorly my phone number, via E-Mail, and you can go right on ahead and listen to me sing over the phone at a pre-appointed time.

Nobody has accused me of being a poser directly, to the contrary, everyone has been very nice to me, but it does come up a lot, in general.

Please give me at least four days, though, I'm just recovering from my annual bout of strep throat.

Shouldn't worry about it (people think if you ar poser or not).. If you are a musician, you cant hide that...even if you are unable to post samples...
and other musicians will understand...

If you want to show your musicianship, find a song that you can pull off with a single guitar and for about 35 bucks an hour , get a studio engineer to record you (and friends) Then post it. The money is worth the investment (Average cost for a scratch track nicely done is about 70 bucks (+/-)...which happens to be the same price as a resume building service that would charge to fix you up with a professional resume... In other wordfs, its an investment that you'd make cuase its shows your value and you are proud of your value...right?

(Note: A poser would be proud also but wouldnt actually 'have' the value)

Just hang in there, you'll get it down and then well expect you to post something ;)

Be chilly my friend. You have here a group of individuals who understand the difficulties of this thing better than most.

Keep working hard at it. All that stuff will come out if it. You can't deliver the product until you produce it. Sometimes a rough draft is enough to qualify as a demo - you'll have that soon. Let it chart it's own course.

I'm feeling frustrated myself. I'd hoped to have two tunes up with my new drummer by Jan 1 but I don't see it happening. Not rehearsing enough - each time is mostly catchup from last time. We've resolved to go to two nights a week or more and to play out this coming year.

I'm assuming an hour's worth of orignal material and positive attitude has to be worth something eh?

Is your thing covers or original? Each has it's own set of difficulties.

Good luck and don't worry about proving yourself. As you push this band forward you'll be generating product. Tape yourselves early on because a) it's a good Learning experience you can work with to iron out the rough spots; and b) if things go south you have something, which beats the heck out of nothing.

When you have something you want others to hear let it be known. But I wouldn't worry too much what others may think. Besides you're not the only one without any music postings.
When the time comes, let the music do the talking.

Its a human fear to worry about what others think of our abilities. We are all concerned that we MEASURE UP to our fellow musicians expectations! Music is a very social craft! I try to keep in mind that the only person I am competing with is myself! We are all our own worst critic's. If I am not happy with it then its not right. I love music so much it is a part of who I am, my very existence! I like the wise saying that "worry doesn't solve tomorrows problems it steals today's peace of mind"

Try not to worry about what others think of you and do the best you can. If you are relentless and keep trying over and over one day you will look around and say that wasn't so hard! Then its on to the next rung of the ladder!

I was on here for many months before I posted my first recordings.
And then I got raped for my crappy guitar tone.
( I could not begin to list all the great info and advice I've received )
Seriously, for me this is a learning and sharing place.

That's what the boards are for ... bling to the audience.
Sure we want to see/hear your talents ... more interested in your musical soul.

I want to thank everybody for settin' me straight. All this time I thought you were talking about Women wanting to be men and men wanting to be women.

Thanks for understanding, everyone!

We intend to do both originals and covers, btw.

I also like your idea, PaperDog, about going somewhere and just recording one song. I might do that after Christmas when I know where everything is financially with respect to extra money. Hell, I might even go a cappella!
