HEY! I can hear every word!

Sounded good I'd never heard either one,
and I thought I new my classic rock well.

I loved the album cover for 7, I bought
The Dead's album Blues For Allah, cause I
thought the cover was so cool.

Steppen Wolf! Now that is a band that I have not heard about in a while.

Oh yeah those guys are from my era. I am still a fan. We played some of their "off the chart" tunes for a while but people in the audience just didn't get it. Now we play just their hits. You can hear some Grateful Dead influence in these two songs.

One of the absolute GREATEST bands from the 60's. So overlooked. I love John Kay and STEPPINWOLF. WOW those are some old vids, thank you so much for posting those Klug.

I saw John Kay and Stepenwolf at a venue off base called the Chateu Madrid, when I had about 2 weeks left of active duty at Camp Le Jeune. A band called Rax opened for them that just happened to be from my home town of Columbus, Ohio. That house rocked that night. I don't need to tell you about Steppenwolf. They were great. Rax had a killer keyboard player that brought the house down with his rendition of Charley Brown's Theme song. I'm glad I didn't get tested after that night! I can always say I saw John Kaye (sp?) but he didn't see me!

Another on of those bands I just never got. Sure I liked some of their music but truly it was take of leave kind of thing.

Saw them once ... in a crappy concrete box... horrid acoustics.
Too loud.

They came on after THE GUESS WHO ... all the fat old bikers waddled up and surrounded the stage in some sort of odd worship service.
The venue wanted to charge my pregnant wife $5.00 for a cup of ice water.

I'm with you. 'Born to be Wild' was certainly a classic but I didn't care for much else. Many did - so it could be me.

But then, I was a huge Country Joe fan. Which makes my own tastes just a bit suspect.

However, Their 'Not So Sweet Martha Lorraine' was itself a classic.

The song actually is, whether or not it's deliberate, a wonderful and thougtful critique of Communism. (or given the times, of the Old Left)

I saw them twice and they sucked both times but man, that first album was great. Electric Music for the Mind and Body. And it really was electric music.

Their love song, 'Porpoise Mouth' combined psychedelic with Circus and was one of the definitive songs I'd heard at the time, so far as dynamics went. With Country Joe, the bass was right up front and the organ had a delightfully electronic sound.

Radical Politics killed them quite as dead as the Airplaine.

A piece of history came from Steppenwolf, whether you like them or not. The phrase "Heavy Metal" was first coined in Born to Be Wild!

George, I get you not getting them. John Kay was/is maybe as arrogant as Jim Morrison. People are strange!

Goldy McJohn was one of the coolest keyboardists ever, too!

One of the old bands I was in, MotorWolf was based on this..

Motorwolf = Stepphenwolf + Motorhead
