I took my son to see Hugo tonight. We saw it in 3-D. Very nice movie, but it contained no swearing, no nudity, no controversial subject matter. What were they thinking?

. Laurel and Hardy films contained no swearing,, no nudity, no controversial subject matter either. What were THEY thinking? Imagine how much more popular they could have been if they had said lines like:

"Here's aother God-damned fuc*in mess you've gotten me into."

"Hey Ollie, see that bi*ch across the street? Why don't we go and rape her Ollie?"
"I never thought of that Stanley. That's a pretty smart thought."
" Yeah Ollie, I'll hold her down for you. It won't be a minute. We can rape her in a jiffy!"

One of the reasons I can hardly stand most films made today is precisely what your post is about. Add to the swearing, violence, controversy is a bunch of over-done special effects and you get a movie that has zero redeeming qualities. The films made back in the day were made mainly for ONE reason, to entertain.

My granny used to play piano for the movies before the talkies came out.

Totally irrelevant, I know ... I just always like her stores. 8)

When my mother was a kid she spent all day Saturday at the movies. They ran features, shorts cartoons, news stories, etc. Of course they didn't have TV back then. The movie theatres used to give away dishes and other neat stuff. And I imagine she paid under a buck to get in. Now I can watch videos on my smart phone. Scotty, beam me up...

Laurel and hardy are tmeless. They will never fade like mona lisa's smile. Today's entertainment for the big opening weekend have their requirements. those movies that are produced without incessant vulgarity will always be considered ART!

Worst Bowl match-ups ever?

This year's BCS selection committee stunk it up like never before. LSU BEAT Alabama already, have them play Ok State. Boise State with one loss plays Arizone State with SIX losses? Georgia with two losses who LOST to Boise State gets to play Michigan State in the Sugar Bowl. Have BOISE play Michigan State dumbasses. This BCS crap has to end. It's retarded.

Kinda' like a computer generated FedEx delivery rout sheet. If it happened here as much as FedEx, I would quit this site too.
