The female vocalist scheduled to try out today cancelled.
As per usual.
I've heard every excuse in the book at least three times now . . .
.
This happens mostly with the folks I meet over the internet. Most are new to the music world.
If I meet them in person somewhere and they say they're interested, then they usually do show up.
.
But - over the internet - it's almost a complete waste of time.
They act all excited, and then at the last minute they cancel with an excuse.
And, I've noticed that the younger they are - the more apt they are to cancel.
Over the years I've seen that for every 12 women who say they want to sing - only ONE will show up.
I've tried every approach from garrulous to taciturn.
I always find out their goals, first, to make sure we're compatible.
They know the songs are all originals, several different styles of music, and many are difficult to sing.
And they still SAY they want to try out, and agree to show up at a certain time.
So I say yeah, ok, c'mon over . . .
Then 45 minutes before showing up, they cancel.
.
Again, - If I meet em in person - they'll probably show.
But if I meet 'em through emails - they'll probably make an excuse.
.
Anybody else seeing to this?
Meeting they guys isn’t quite as bad as meeting the girls, but, still: if you’re not really interested, or unsure of your abilities, or 'aint got the the time,' or scared - then don’t TELL me you’re going to show up, damn you!
Just leave me alone - I have other stuff to do other than move furniture and set up amps and stuff for you, just to have you cancel.
I'm tired of wasting on newbies . . .

Recently I contacted someone on BM who has stated they were
needing a singer for their blues band. Monthly they meet at a
Blues Society gathering and multiple people or bands play only
blues. I told him a song that I wanted to sing as an audition.
(I Need Your Love So Bad) It is not a difficult song at all for him
to pick up and play solo behind me if need be. He hasn't answered my
responce yet so we shall see. The meeting is taking place this Wed. night
and all I need is an e-mail. I have listened to the band on a video
and feel I can learn some good songs from them. You guys know I am
a Country singer but I have found that a lot of the vocal skills of bending
and extending syllables relate to both. I need to work on the texture
implementation that is needed in so many Blues songs. I've always
had trouble with the gravel. Wish me luck, I need to sing.[/b]

Or Shortening your search. My value is 20 miles. Past that it is not worth it to me or prospectives, but it puts Lancaster and Circleville in the mix.

Western society hold women to no standards of accountability.
Sadly, many of the guys act just like American women do. ( won't call them men, because a MAN dos not behave is such fashion )

Do I sound sexist ? GOOD ...

Glad my wife has more masculine traits when it comes to being accountable.

Sorry for the rant of the origina post.
I'd stopped really looking for female singers over the internet some time ago, but this girl contacted me.
.
But - yeah, Bob, I could use a few other voices, male or female . . .
I had previously been looking for female voices to fill in the higher harmonies, but I guess I could spread the harmonies through the mid range every bit as easily . . .
.
Anyway - I don't know that the women are worse than the men - there's just fewer of them in music in this area.

Around here there's probably 15 - 20 guys for every 1 woman in music . . .
.
But I'm sure not very interested in the ones who contact me on line . . .

Hey Bro, Its not just internet... I recently recruited a classical guitarist for a specific track...I talked by phone, went to his home, emailed...all of it...When it came time to show up at the session, he flaked (Not once....but Twice in the last couple of weeks). No phone call or nothing to let me know he was cancelling.. It was really sad to listen to him struggle for excuses when I called him on it... Its a pity cause the guy was pretty talented... And had no reason to bullshit me... He couls have just said he wasnt that interested up front.

I feel ya man!

Hey, this summer, I had 3 drummers , ( 1 from BM). I offered to pay them to just help set up my drums /sound check/micing etc etc. (so I could finish some tracks) ALL NO SHOWS.

Any drummers out there willing to lay tracks down or try to with a guaranteed fin spot. 2 hours, 100 buckeroos, you bring your talent and then I'm willing to spend more. I'm talking money, all you got to do is play and help me get the best sound I can get. I GET NO SHOWS.

Thats ok. The drummer from this garage band is turning out to be one cool person. As a matter of fact they all are.

Posers... Thats just too sad, or I am just to scary. :?

Aerosmith just seems to be a good target for reflectiom today. I think the backround singing is better than Steven Tyler. At least one song epitimizes this to get my point across- Last Child.

I can relate to this but none of it is all that new. Read the history surrounding Chess Records, Django Reinhardt, Mussel Shoals, early Clapton days, Bowie... musicians are often pretty flaky. It comes with the territory. It is very easy to be a rock hero in your own mind. It is a lot tougher to actually go out and do it, taking all the hard knocks, struggles and disappointments along the way.

Surround yourself with players who have reasonable skill, show up, own their own gear, have transportation, and then lead by example. Simply ignore the rest.

My hat is off to all musicians who are out there playing live (even if it is a street corner in Philly) or are producing original music that is distributed somewhere outside your living room.

Get off the couch and go out and do it!

Internet has no bearing on this, it just allows you to meet more potential members than traditional ways so you will meet more flakes. Remember, most "musicians" are damaged goods in some way. I would say only 15% are people you would seriously consider. So you gotta kiss a lot of frogs (or dogs as the case may be).
