I wonder if Jon Gomm will be as big as Lady Gaga? I wonder if they would even let Jon Gomm on X-factor or American Idol? After the video was over I saw there was 57 DISLIKES by Youtube viewers. What BRAINDEAD SUB-MORON could possibly DISLIKE that? That's just a genius at work. Maybe back in the day there were 57 people who DISLIKED Mozart...

Some of the folks out there just don't understand REAL VIRTUOSITY! That guy reminds me a lot of Tommy Emanuel. I have posted him on here before during one of my youtube quest for inspiration while simultaneously consuming alcoholic beverages

I was watching Neanderpauls one-man-band looper vids and it reminded me of a guy I always saw in San Francisco as a kid:

That got me surfing youtube for other one-man-bands and there are a bunch of them out there. I nearly cried when I saw Jon Gomm doing his thing. Every one-man-band is quite unique in their approach and just brilliant to watch.

I have enough trouble just keeping track of 6 strings.

Dont feel too bad... I suspect that Gomm actually drop-tuned his strings to an open key. I suspect it because I just discovered it's a technique that Robert Johnson used to pull off so many of his blues slide riffs...and its a common technique for some blue-grass and mountain-blues styles.
If you ever drop-tuned a guitar, its actually quite easy then, to come up with ethereal sounding tones and runs... In Gomm's case, he has an extraordinary sense of rhythm and is actually using his guitar as a percussion instrument, along side the string manipulation. Then, if you add a touch of Van Halen Techniques on the fret board ...you got Gomm...kicking everybody's ass..

he has drop tuned his guitar, probably just
lowered the E to D. My son-in-law uses this
technique he says he picked it up from
System of A Down.

Definitely open tuning like playing slide. But of course he re-tunes on the fly using tuning heads like a B-bender. I have never seen that before. His songs are just loaded with lots of imagination, innovation and technique. Lots of people won't really get his music. I just think he is a very interesting and unique player.
