I know where you are coming from with your comments about originals,,,
I just don't feel I have the willpower to go in and put all that effort in, to play some one else's music. Maybe,,, if I interpret it my way. (your post about G.C.)
I went down to a couple of open jams. Most of these hosts suuuck when it comes to trying to do covers. Give em something new and suddenly they become musicians.
I guess the bottom line is that if you are going to be successful doing any "ORIGINALS",,,, They better be DAMN GOOD!!!!
I will be the first person to encourage young song writers. DO NOT GIVE UP!!!
I have heard some great original music on BM. Keep trying folks. Rock ON!!!

OH and Jeff,,, I'm sure you have a few of your tunes you should share.
It's like that long haired crazy guy,,, Wilder, he has written some great original tunes, big set, but he doesn't have the balls to go out and play his own music. YADA YADA YADA,,, You guys are great players, musicians, and you only share your talents with a few of us.
By the way John,,, I really enjoyed those originals.

I think your right on the money about originals,
Glen. We all can play guitar to some extent, as
can many people in the world. The only thing is
we can't all write good songs that people want to
here. The songwriting part has got to be the hardest
part, or everybody would be writing hit songs and
albums.

I love seeing the music in my ( and my bandmates ) heart / head come to fruition.
It soothes a creative need as well as give me a sense of well being inside.
Will I have a hit album?
Most likely no ... but I'm just as happy sitting and playing with myself.
Wait!
That did not come out right!

Glen I think you have a huge misconception of me, I played in mulitple original bands thru the years, even got a spec deal and produced an album with one in the early 80s.
I just never got anywhere with it. Had a great time, living the life, but no money, no fame no fortune.
At this point in life I have a couple of "REAL" jobs that sustain my lifestyle, and allow me to play music on my terms.
No I dont have the "BALLS" to fool with putting together an original band, LOL. My originals these days just reflect a point in time for me, what I was thinking at the time I wrote them, and its funny cause over the past few years I havent even had the desire to play them for anyone. My cover band did actually play a couple of old originals we wrote a few years ago sat night.
My cover band we get paid to come in and entertain people, but I still write music all the time, and sometimes I actually take the time to record it. Big Whoopie man.
My cover band is low maintenance way to get out and play in front of people, We do take a lot of libertys with songs, I dont really worry about playing them note for note, so I get in inject whatever it is that I am musically into them.
We had a great gig sat night, this place had this bull that people ride, the gals were on this thing taking thier tops off and falling all over the place, while we were in the background playing RATM and Soundgarden.
Im completely happy with where I am musically at this point in my life. We were talking between sets the other night about how good our deal really is, no practice, no drama, our singer rode with me to the gig and we even worked a song up on the way and played it. So life is good here dude, no complaints at all on my part.

My most enjoyable time at our gigs is between sets going out and BS with the crowd. I am the drummer/sound man for our little band and I am always picking up new gigs for private parties. Main stream top 40 R&R will live forever and it nothing but "ITS TIME TO ROCK AND PARTY!"

The only HUGE MISCONCEPTION I have of you is that you voted for Obama.
You have had this band together for so long, you guys are rock stars.
Sorry for mentioning that your original material is DEFINITELY worth mentioning. Please, next time, try and get us one recording live. Thanks.
Sorry about your whammy pedal. Thanks for the great pics. (got any of the girls?)
You Rock JW.

RG I enjoy mixing with the crowd too, and we have picked up gigs that way, on the other hand Im used to someone coming out in the parking lot and saying how great we are and what we charge and wanting us for private parties and ussually after I give them the info I never hear from them again.
We did do a gig a few weeks ago, private party for a guy my age, he was tickled with how it turned out, but his college sons only wanted to hear country and rap, you know the big booty thing.
This gig friday night was at a club thats owned by a guy who me and my guys have played for for years and always had great success with. The other night was a little different, Im from the south and basically we are a hard rock redneck type of group. The crowd and pardon me if Im offending anyone, was 70% black. So our first set it was white folks on one side,a nd black on the other. Toward the end of the first set, our singer says we are going to take a break and let the DJ do some songs. This was met with the biggest round of applause so far that night.
So audiences are changing in my part of the world, oddly they all started gettting into it when we start playing what i like to call angry white boy rock/rap. By the end of the night we had them all up and dancing. A couple of the big gansta looking guys even said to me man you can rip that guitar, but we are finding that the good ole rock we do doesnt always connect with everyone. Dont know what that means, but even some of the old standby songs that always got people going dont always work.
We wound up doing some Temptations and old school funk stuff which saved the night for us with part of the crowd.
But its changing, but people that see us know we are working our asses off to entertain them so its all good.
To me it doesnt matter whether you do originals or not, I mean Jimmy and the Farleys are one of my favorite groups and I wear that cd out, the song about the kids drowning and all is classic to me.
Like I said what matters to me is having fun, and if it wasnt fun playing the covers with my band you can bet your sweet asses I wouldnt be doing it! LOL

Politically for the record Glen I like Ron Paul, and I did write in his name if it matter to you so much.
Ive cut back on the pictures of the ladys since I got remarried Im sure you understand that, plus my wife is taking the pictures.
I had a guy take some short little videos with my bloggie, but after seeing Haleys stuff Im embarassed byt the sound quaility, when the guy would get in my face all you hear is guitar, if he got by the drums the drums were distorting the camera, and the same for the bass, I guess we did get a little loud the other night cause its a pretty big place and everyone kept saying turn it up, so I did, but it still sounding great when I walked the room, and it sounded great from where I was standing. The other issue was I guess this guy was drunk so he kept turning the video sideways, and I just hate when they shots are at wierd angles, come on man the 60s are over LOL!
