The BCS Bowl system turned upside down, again

For all you college football fans, here we go with another CRAZY weekend of ridiculous upsets. First last night Oklahoma State (#2) loses to Iowa State in overtime after turning the ball over 5 times. Oregon (#6?) Loses to USC. Oklahoma (#5) loses for the FIRST time ever to Baylor on a last second bomb. If things continue expect LSU to lose to Arkansas next week. Only Houston University will still be unbeaten. Oh and my Kansas State Wildcats beat Texas Univesity for the sixth time in the last eight tries. K State is the only Big 12 team that has a winning record against Texas in Big 12 play. Eventually there has to be some kind of playoff. THIS IS NUTS!

My two favorite college football teams are Boise State and Kansas State. Hated to see Broncos lose to TCU, although I admire TCU also. Most exciting college football game ever was Boise State beating mighty Oklahoma in the Festa Bowl a number of years ago. I'm wondering if Boise should head to the Big East. To me it would make more sense to go to the Pac 10. I would love to see Boise State in the Big 12. Boise State versus Texas or Oklahoma or K State, now you're talking a CHALLENGE. TCU is coming to the Big 12 next year. Kellen Moore is the most deadly accurate college passer I've ever seen. He's projected as a seventh round NFL pick, that's NUTS. He's going to be a superstar in the NFL, just watch. Tom Brady was a sixth round pick, look what he's done in the NFL. And if you haven't noticed the QB for Kansas State, Colin Klein, has rushed for 26 touchdowns. The guy is a gamer, his elbows are always bloody, pants ripped, blood on his face, there has never been anybody who leaves everything on the field like him. He doesn't look pretty, his passes are sometimes ugly, he's not fast, doesn't look muscular. He just wins. Whatever it takes.

I can't watch college football precisely because of the absurd bowl system. The regular season annoys me. The games can be great to watch (BSU/TCU as an example) but I just find it incredibly annoying to watch the games knowing that these amazing teams and these hard-working kids don't have a chance to settle it on the field at the end of the year.

There are 6-8 teams every year that deserve a shot to show their stuff in a playoff format. And the stupid thing is, the lower divisions in college football manage to use a playoff system just fine. So all the arguments that NCAA has against it (scheduling, etc.) are just stupid.

And now the national championship game, which used to be a New Year's Day event, is held almost halfway through January.

I'd much rather see a playoff system installed and start watching college playoff games every Saturday during December, culminating in a National Championship game on January 1st. If college football ever gets there, I'll become a fan. Until then all I care about is the NFL.

Bob, little birds tell me that it's better than 80% that Boise is headed to the Big East. (football only)

Should they? I don't think so.

Houston is another team I'd like to see join the Big 12. No matter what college fotball playoff format is used there wll be complaints. There's simply too many Division 1 teams. I say have all bowl games done by January 1 and then when the dust clears have the # 1,2,3 & 4 ranked teams play a week later (final 4 college footbal) for the national championship. Most of the bowl games make a bunch of money for the schools involved and the local economies of where the bowls are played. I enjoy the bowl games because often teams play each other who have never played each other before.

And posting that link still doesn't invalidate what Fisherman Bob said, which is "most", not "all".

Most schools make millions for their programs.

And the system is still screwed up.

I do agree the system is screwed up. For many programs the only good a bowl game brings is the additional practices that are allowed by the NCAA and I supose the additional TV ratings if anyone is watching the Bridgepoint Education Holiday bowl or S.D. County Credit Union Poinsettia bowl or how bout the Valero Alamo bowl. There are 35 bowls now which require 70 teams. It was close last season to have teams with losing records get invites. That's screwed up.
I didn't say all nor does the article. But there are plenty of articles showing the losses teams inncur to go to bowls.
Even if it's a BCS bowl, with a bigger pay-out some still lose money.
Also with the structure of payout to the conferences they only get a percentage of the prize.
These games usually require much more in costs than any typical road game.
I don't know what you mean by most schools make millions for their program.
Sports programs make millions for their universities like Football in Texas, Ohio State, Alabama, USC etc... Basketball at UNC, Duke, MSU etc...
Unless you mean like a Boise that has too small of a stadium to really make much.

Not a bad idea! mainstream the televised games... I love college ball over NFL for a variety of reasons...

1) More interesting results out of each play.
2) The tailgate parties...
3) Always get to watch the team when they are home...
4) The bars after the tailgate parties... during the last quarter...
5) Did I mention, free sneak -ins...Hell We have the Sun Bowl... and a lot of surrounding hills...
