The key is to keep learning new things.
If you ever hit a plateau: learn a new song, or a new chord.
I learned about 40 - 50 new chords in the last 3-4 years - and that's after playing for about 25 years.
It's amazing what a new chord will do to the music you play, IF you use it at the right time and in the right place.

Many a 'crummy' sounding chord sounds great, if you know where to use it.
We're never too old to learn.
