I did the most insane thing last week....I recorded, mixed, mastered, and RELEASED a new CD

Didn't even know I would be doing an album until 2 days before we went into the studio. I hired musicians and a studio on Sunday Oct 30th

Went in on a Monday and 7 1/2 hours later we had recorded 10 new songs. Added a clarinet and added a background vocal to 4 songs on Tuesday, mixed and mastered on Wednesday and dropped it off at the manufacturer on Thursday before leaving town. It was available (for digital downloads) on my website and I was performing with the tracks on Friday.

My last CD was very much a "classic rock" approach to praise music, so I wanted to do something more traditional on this project, so my friends and fans would have new praise & worship music they could use in their own congregations.

There are worship songs on this project that will go nicely in any church, but my genre is "messianic" praise which draws on ancient hebraic forms, so this particular song about rejoicing in the Sabbath has a 1930s klesmer feel, and is destined to be a standard in messianic/hebraic congregations.

Sweet.

Cannot wait to have an opportunity to check it out.

Little rushed this evening for as soon as Jeanette gets in from work I will begin tearing down the gear to be transported to the gig tomorrow.

I listen but don't really hear, when my mind is preoccupied to this extent and I prefer to give you my fullest attention.

I'll be back ...

It's not hard for a bunch of guys to spend 7 1/2 hours in a studio playing. Having a finished product that doesn't suck in that amount of time is the trick, right?

These are a bunch of what I'd call "B sides" songs that I've had laying around for a while because they didn't fit other projects. I've practised them enough to know them well, so all I needed were musicians who would play them great the first time and sound good. I know a lot of those kinds of guys. Great musicians seem to grow on trees in Texas. The really great ones are expensive and worth every penny.

Then I needed a studio who had the kind of gear/setup that would handle that many people playing live in the same area. I lucked out and got a fantastic deal (but still not cheap) on a great studio that is owned/operated by a 3-time Grammy award winning producer. He also is known for his Mastering capabilities, which GREATLY sped up the process. Heck, he gave me a bar code and ISRC number before I left the studio, too. That usually takes weeks.

Still, it was a low budget CD that is going to sell great at my gigs. From start to 1,000 copies in hand total was $6,840. After the first 488 CDs are sold, it will be all profit.

I conservatively plan to sell at least 2,000 at gigs before Christmas, and even that few would NET me $21k in a month. Who couldn't use a break like that? Guess we'll see how that works out soon enough, eh?
