Review, please

I already know the main problems with these recordings, but I'm looking for some feedback on the songs.

1) What's wrong and where, what you don't like from a technical stanpoint.

2) General feedback on the songs. What's good and/or bad.

These were recorded at home. No cash involved.

Ok I'll bite:

What I Like:
1) Technically nothing wrong (For a no-cash home recording). The guitar work is clean, precise and you got a great ear for merging guitar lines... Basically they are very worthy of a professional engineers touch at this stage.

2) I liked 'Letting Go" the best of the three. It's got great "hook & follow". Again, your ear for precision, + Tone , Texture and ambiance is very good. Its actually a song that easily invokes clever lyrics. (Do not put a screamo on it)

What I don't Like:
1) They seem, unfinished...missing some parts. (But then again I aint a metalist, so what do I know?)
2) They were recorded in a home studio and thus the quality of the songs, aren't getting due justice.
3) No vocals....

Oh, I'm sorry... I meant the songs at the Gypsy Saints link.

But I VERY much appreciate your input on my profile music.
Truly, thank you very much.

On the first song "Easy" The feel has a bit of a drag during the verses. Whether it's the drums or something else I'm not sure from one listening but it desn't feel tight. But the song is there... just needs tighter timing on the kit.

I'm digging "Jihad", but the bass drum... feels again like a drag at times.
But the song Rocks! 8)
Didn't really dig Feel free. Too much Hetfield/Sully Erna
Over-all
Your Guitar playing rocks. I don't really dig a lot of processing on guitars I don't think "you" need it.
I'd pull back the reverb on the vocals a bit.
Vocals definetly fit the sound.
On my second listen, same thing "Easy" has a drag on the drummers bass at times.
Thanks for sharing and being open to critiques.

Some dragging in the first verse on easy. I think the drummer is at fault. Hetfield is the first thing I thought on the vocalist. He sings sharp at :40. He's off key throughout. The song sounds pretty 15 years dated. man I've heard your guitar tones sound stellar! This just sounds like a 10 year old zoom. You have some strong moments in your solo. Singer's high note at 4:07 has a bizarre and unpleasant tone. The 6 chord ascension that starts at 4:46 is awesome!

Feel free starts off strong. digging the chord progression. a Little 10 years dated. Maybe Godsmack. And singer is off key often. Pinched harmonics make me cringe. I know I am in the minority on that. The "psycho" intro to the solo that starts at 3:16 is sick (good)

Jihad starts totally unique! The singers vocals are the best here in the intro. (wait, that's not your singer there is it?) Then the singers opening "wow!" kicks! Then it straight rocks! Sounds like a different band! Until the singer starts in. I'm sorry. I dislike his voice. His has severe pitch issues. I went back and counted 18 times he was flat or sharp. And sharp is the wost crime a singer can commit IMO. The drummer sounds great on this tune. The hammers on the solo that start at 2:02 are yuck and not even good notes. And there is a stumble it it. Then the melody lead that starts at 2:16 IS just AWESOME!! The break that starts at 2:30 is a little weird but unique. It's OK. THEN the best element of any of the three songs happens. Starting at 2:36 the 2 harmony leads are EPIC! That's the gtzip I LOVE TO HEAR! And the singers "hey, hey, hey!' is good. His YEAAAH is actually good too. Some of the leads out are cheesy but good at the same time. The repeated now distorted "hey, hey, hey!" is a nice touch. The synth that follows and supports is appropriate and a nice touch. This is by far the best song to me.

It's fine for a home recording. The mix is fine.

What I'd like to hear for you (just my selfish opinion) is another band and a fatty tube amp cranked. With less metal and more rock. And plenty of fully developed 2 part harmony leads. Maybe I just need to send you a rock song ready for a great gtzip 2 part lead intro, a nice 30 second 2 part harmony solo with room for more background guitar tapestries, and a full 2 part harmony lead outro. You are clearly talented man. Rock on.

Listening now ...

Forgive me not doing an in-depth review.

My whole body and my weary mind ache this evening.

Not a big " new metal " fan but your music ROCKS

Just a small note ... IMO the "hey" would be more effective in Jihad used sparingly ( maybe like only the first one )

Thanks guys!

The drums do drag and/or fluctuate. But I think it's mainly on 'Easy'. (First verse, yep)

Singer does have pitch problems... thought about auto-tuning him a bit.
He could be a decent singer with some work I think, but as of right now it isn't cutting it.
I think the voice fits the sound, but the pitch is bumming me out.

Paul, it IS a ten year old Zoom. :)
You are amazing - You hear it all, and you're dead on. lol

George, the "hey, heys" are reserved for the breakdown part with the harmonied guitar, and for the end of the song when it's played live - Just decided to put more of them in on the recording.

If anyone else wants to chime in, that would be swell!
It's very valuable feedback.

I just heard the 3 you have on your player and they are all good.

Ready to be redone and mastered, as only the recording is anything one could pick at.

I like the sound of what you are doing overall and that's a hell of a lot more advantageous than having a good recording. (Any dork can make a good recording)

You can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, but wouldn't you rather take the silk purse and make it into something even better by starting with good material(s)>?

Not all musicians have silk purses to start with..

I liked it Zip. The guitar sounds good. The vocals are a little dated but work OK. I liked "Jihad" the best.
